About Us
HR On Demand (HROD) is a Texas-based, full-service HR partner that supports global companies in establishing and growing their U.S. operations. We deliver end-to-end HR solutions, including talent acquisition, payroll, compliance, employee relations, and organizational development. Drawing on Fortune 500 HR leadership experience, we help businesses build compliant, high-performing teams and navigate the U.S. market with confidence.
We are recruiting for this position on behalf of our client, a leader in robotics and intelligent optical systems.
About the Role
The Optical Test Engineer sets up, programs and maintains the optical test stations that verify the client's optical products before they ship. The role is hands-on: bringing up new stations, customizing automated test programs, and working daily with optical power meters and Keysight instrumentation to keep measurements accurate and repeatable.
The ideal candidate has 1+ years of solid optical test experience, is comfortable on the production floor, and is eager to help build a test operation from the ground up at a new manufacturing site.
Key Responsibilities
Test Station Setup
- Install, configure and bring up new optical test stations, including fixtures, fiber paths and instrument connections.
- Calibrate stations and maintain calibration records for all optical test equipment.
- Run station correlation and Gage R&R studies to ensure accuracy and repeatability across lines.
Test Program Development
- Set up, customize and debug automated test programs to meet product specifications.
- Optimize test sequences to reduce cycle time without compromising measurement quality.
- Maintain version control and documentation for test software and limits.
Instrumentation & Measurement
- Operate optical power meters, Keysight equipment (e.g., BERTs, DCAs, OSAs), attenuators and light sources.
- Perform optical measurements such as Tx power, Rx sensitivity, extinction ratio, eye diagram/mask and insertion loss.
- Follow fiber handling, connector inspection and cleaning best practices.
Troubleshooting & Data Analysis
- Diagnose test failures and separate product issues from station or fixture issues.
- Collect and analyze test data to track yield, failure modes and trends.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions with Process and Quality teams.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Write test procedures and work instructions; train operators and technicians.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) and the ramp to volume production.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Quality to keep test capacity aligned with production needs.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Optical/Photonics, Physics or a related engineering field
- 1+ years of solid, hands-on optical test engineering experience
- Direct experience with optical power meters and Keysight test equipment
- Proven ability to set up test stations and configure/customize test programs
- Working knowledge of fiber handling and connector inspection
- Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working onsite on the production floor
Preferred
- Experience testing optical transceivers (100G/400G/800G or higher)
- Scripting for test automation (Python, LabVIEW, C# or similar) and instrument control (SCPI, GPIB/LAN)
- Exposure to Gage R&R, SPC or yield analysis
