Optical Sales Assistant

We're looking for a friendly, confident and driven Sales Assistant to join our Middlesbrough Station. This is not a passive retail role - it's a sales-first, customer-facing role - you'll help people choose glasses they love and get them same-day.

Optical experience is not required. We'll train you fully on frames, lenses and fitting. What matters most is your personality, your attitude, your energy, and your ability to strike up a conversation with a stranger and turn it into a sale.

The environment — worth knowing before you apply
SpecStation isn't a quiet shop-floor role. You're in a kiosk in the middle of a busy shopping centre, on your feet, starting conversations with people who weren't necessarily looking for you. It suits an outgoing person who genuinely enjoys talking to strangers — if that's not you, this probably isn't either. For the right person, it's genuinely fun: a small, close-knit team, a positive and supportive atmosphere, and real variety in the day.

What you'll be doing

• Actively approaching people passing the Station — not waiting for them to come to you
• Helping customers choose frames and lenses that suit their needs, style and budget
• Confidently talking through products, pricing and options
• Working towards site sales targets, individually and as part of the team
• Learning the optical side properly — glazing, optical dispensing, lens types, fitting — as you go
• Keeping the Station looking sharp and welcoming

What we're looking for

• Genuinely confident talking to people you've never met
• Sales-driven — motivated by hitting a target, not just getting through a shift
• Reliable — turns up, on time, every time
• Energetic, proactive, comfortable on your feet in a busy shopping centre
• No optical background needed — but if you've got one, even better
• Not essential, but a plus if you're able to travel between our locations

Pay and rewards

• From £12.71 per hour (National Living Wage)
• Uncapped monthly team bonus on top of your hourly pay — real upside as the Station grows, with no ceiling on what the team can earn
• Full training provided, with real progression as we grow

Hours: Part-time and full time available
