Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician to join our dynamic healthcare team! Duties

• Dispense spectacle lenses and contact lenses based on ophthalmologist or optometrist prescriptions, ensuring precise measurements and proper fit.
• Conduct eyewear fittings, adjustments, and repairs to optimize comfort and functionality for each patient.
• Assist patients in selecting frames that suit their style, face shape, and lifestyle preferences while providing expert advice on lens options.
• Operate optical laboratory equipment for lens cutting, edging, and mounting with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Maintain patient records using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and medical confidentiality policies.
• Manage retail sales transactions using POS (Point of Sale) systems, including cash register operations and processing payments efficiently.
• Educate patients on eye health topics such as physiology, anatomy of the eye, and medical terminology related to vision care.
• Support clinic operations by verifying insurance information, assisting with medical billing, coding procedures accurately according to health regulation policies, and ensuring compliance with state healthcare regulations.
• Perform basic vital signs assessments when necessary for senior or pediatric patients to support comprehensive eye care evaluations.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care in both clinical and retail settings.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in optical retail or clinical optometry environments is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles, optics, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye care.
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems, medical billing procedures, and HIPAA regulations is essential.
• Experience with spectacle lens dispensing, eyewear fittings, frame adjustments, and laboratory equipment operation.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations for prescriptions, measurements, and sales transactions accurately.
• Excellent customer service skills with a friendly approach that builds trust and rapport with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care clients.
• Knowledge of health regulation policies including state healthcare regulations and clinical confidentiality policies.
• Competency in retail management tasks such as POS system operation, retail math, inventory management, and sales techniques.
• Strong communication skills combined with a proactive attitude toward patient education and team collaboration.
