JOB DESCRIPTION – OPTICIAN

Job Title: Optician
Department: Optical / Eye Care
Reports To: Optometrist / Ophthalmologist / Hospital Administrator

Job Purpose

To provide professional optical services to patients, including spectacle dispensing, frame and lens selection, measurements, fitting, adjustments, and basic optical counselling as per the prescription provided by the optometrist/ophthalmologist.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and understand spectacle prescriptions accurately.
• Assist patients in selecting suitable frames and lenses according to prescription, requirements, and budget.
• Take accurate measurements such as PD and other required fitting measurements.
• Prepare and dispense spectacles as per prescription.
• Check finished spectacles for correct power, fitting, alignment, and quality.
• Perform frame adjustments, repairs, and minor servicing.
• Explain lens types, coatings, frame options, and care instructions to patients.
• Maintain records of optical orders, deliveries, repairs, and patient details.
• Coordinate with optical laboratories and suppliers for timely completion of orders.
• Verify spectacles before handing them over to the patient.
• Handle patient queries and provide courteous customer service.
• Maintain proper stock of frames, lenses, accessories, and optical materials.
• Monitor inventory and inform the supervisor about low-stock items.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper arrangement of the optical section.
• Follow hospital/clinic policies, safety procedures, and professional standards.
• Perform other duties assigned by the management.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma/Certificate in Opticianry or relevant optical qualification preferred.
• Basic knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, frames, and optical instruments.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience

• Experience in an optical shop, eye hospital, eye clinic, or optical department is preferred.
• Freshers with relevant qualification may also be considered.

Pay: ₹8,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
