Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable, and patient-focused Optician & Optical Lab Specialist to join our private practice optometry office. The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with patients, has strong attention to detail, enjoys working with numbers and financial transactions, and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work. This position requires someone who can confidently move between patient service, optical sales, lab work, inventory, and administrative responsibilities.
Patient Care & Optical Sales

- Explain lens options, coatings, materials, and other optical products in a clear and patient-friendly manner.
- Discuss and sell contact lenses and related products.
- Provide professional, friendly, and personalized customer service throughout the optical experience.
- Take accurate measurements and ensure eyewear is ordered according to the patient's prescription and specifications.
- Answer patient questions regarding eyewear and contact lenses.
Optical Lab Responsibilities
- Edge and finish lenses in the in-office optical lab.
- Verify lenses and eyewear for accuracy before dispensing to patients.
- Mount and assemble lenses into frames as needed.
- Adjust, fit, and repair eyeglass frames to provide patients with a comfortable fit.
- Perform quality-control checks on completed eyewear.
- Troubleshoot and correct optical issues when appropriate.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient optical lab.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an optician or in an optical setting preferred.
- Experience with optical lab work, including lens edging and frame adjustments, strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Comfortable working with numbers, pricing, payments, and financial information.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide warm, professional, and personalized patient service.
- Comfortable discussing and selling optical products without being overly sales-focused.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy private practice environment.
- Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently.
- Willingness to learn and follow office procedures and optical standards.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
