What they need
Optician & Frame Inventory Specialist
Lakewood Eye Center · Lakewood, CO · Full-time · $23–$30/hour, based on experience
About Us
Lakewood Eye Center is a family-owned optometry and ophthalmology practice that has cared for the Lakewood community since 1962. For more than 60 years, we've gotten to know our patients by name, often across several generations of the same family. We take pride in an optical shop that offers something different from the big chains: a hand-picked frame collection and the time to help each patient find eyewear that fits their eyes, their life, and their style.
The Role
We're looking for an optician who loves the craft and has an eye for great frames. You'll guide patients through frame and lens selection from start to finish, and you'll work directly with the owner to manage and curate our frame inventory. It's a great fit for someone who enjoys both patient care and the behind-the-scenes work of keeping an optical running smoothly.
What You'll Do
Patient care and dispensing
- Help patients choose frames and lenses suited to their prescription, lifestyle, and style
- Take accurate measurements (PD, segment heights, fitting values)
- Adjust, repair, and dispense eyewear, and verify finished jobs meet our standards
- Explain lens options, care, and adaptation to new prescriptions
Orders and insurance
- Explain vision plan benefits and out-of-pocket costs clearly
- Submit lab orders and track them through completion
- File claims with vision plan carriers
Frame inventory
- Partner with the owner to select and buy frames, and build relationships with frame reps
- Keep inventory records accurate in our system
- Run regular counts and reconcile physical stock with system data
- Monitor stock levels and reorder as needed
What We're Looking For
- Optical experience preferred (we're happy to train the right person with retail or healthcare experience)
- ABO certification a plus, or willingness to pursue it with our support
- Working knowledge of optical math, lens designs, and materials
- Experience with inventory management or retail buying is a bonus
- Comfortable with computers and learning our EHR and optical software
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently
- Warm, coachable, and a good teammate
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $23–$30 per hour, based on experience and certification
- Paid time off: 80 hours (2 weeks) of PTO per year, plus 6 paid holidays
- 401(k): Safe harbor 401(k) with a 3% company contribution
- Eyewear and eye care: Annual eyewear allowance and complimentary eye exams for you and your immediate family
- Professional growth: Paid ABO certification exam and continuing education
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, daytime hours, no evenings or weekends
- A close-knit team where your ideas actually shape the shop
