What they need
Description
We are seeking an Optics Test Engineer to handle R&D activities for optical transceivers across multiple speeds and packaging form factors. This role is responsible for optical module verification, requirements alignment with vendors and PLM, and continuous tracking of optics-related project status. You will work closely with PLM, HT team, and local teams to define test strategies, execute validation, deliver official PMD (Physical Medium Dependent) reports, and support issue resolution—covering xPON (GPON, XGS-PON, 25G PON, 50G PON) and point-to-point optics (40G / 100G / 400G PtP) for the global customers.
Your responsibilities
- Requirement Clarification & Project Planning: Clarify technical and project requirements with PLM (Product Line Management) for optics projects. Align scope, milestones, and deliverables across R&D, vendors. Continuously track status of optics-related projects and report progress, risks, and blockers.
- Test Strategy Definition & Platform Adaptation: Define the testing strategy for different optical modules on different hardware platforms. Adapt validation plans to module type (speed, packaging, application: xPON vs PtP), host platform constraints, and operator or internal acceptance criteria.
- Optical Module Verification & PMD Reporting: Perform hands-on testing and verification of optical modules. Execute optical and electrical characterization per applicable standards. Prepare and deliver official PMD reports documenting compliance with MSA / IEEE / ITU-T requirements, including sensitivity, power budget, eye diagram, jitter, and related parameters.
- Requirements Discussion & Vendor Coordination: Participate in requirements discussion with optical module vendors to ensure product design and test methods align with MSA, IEEE, and ITU-T specifications for xPON and PtP modules. Support technical reviews, specification clarification, and qualification alignment with supplier roadmaps.
- Cross-Platform R&D & Module Development Support: Support R&D work for various-speed, multi-packaging optical transceiver modules from design-in through qualification. Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and test teams on module integration, regression testing, and release readiness across GPON, XGS-PON, 25G PON, 50G PON, and 40G / 100G / 400G PtP applications.
- Field Support & Issue Debug: Support the local team for field issue debug and maintenance tasks . Analyze optical link failures, module compatibility problems, and deployment issues. Provide root-cause analysis and corrective recommendations to improve product stability in operator networks.
- Qualification, EMC/Safety & Continuous Improvement: Guide optics vendors to apply qualification report from 3rd party lab including EMC and safety requirements where applicable. Support NOKIA internal QT team to finish the product level report including varies optics.
