Optometric Diagnostic Technician

Your day at a glance

You start by welcoming patients, putting them at ease, and setting up the exam flow. You’ll collect thorough medical and ocular histories, complete pre-testing, and ensure our optometrist has everything needed to deliver exceptional care. Throughout the day you’ll document accurately in the EMR, answer patient questions with empathy, and keep exam rooms spotless and well-stocked.

Core responsibilities

• Warmly greet patients and prepare them for their eye exams.
• Capture and document complete medical and ocular histories.
• Perform pre-testing and diagnostics: visual acuity, tonometry, auto-refraction, and additional tests as directed.
• Support advanced diagnostics, including visual field testing, OCT, and fundus photography, as trained.
• Room patients and assist the optometrist during procedures.
• Enter and update data in the electronic medical record (EMR) with precision.
• Explain testing steps and address routine questions in a professional, caring manner.
• Provide contact lens instruction, including insertion and removal (I&R) and patient education, when applicable.
• Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked testing and exam areas.
• Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control, and office safety standards.
• Assist with scheduling, patient flow, and general administrative support as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with the optometrist, clinical colleagues, and front office staff.
• Deliver outstanding customer service while safeguarding patient confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications & Credentials

• Immunization record: MMR, Varicella, TDaP, Hep B, and current flu vaccine.
• Current TB test: Quantiferon blood test.
• Current BLS/CPR (hands-on certification).
