Position Title: Optometric Technician

Position Summary:
We are seeking a friendly, detail-oriented, and dependable Optometric Technician to join our eye care team. The ideal candidate will assist the optometrist with patient care, perform preliminary eye examinations, operate diagnostic equipment, educate patients, and help ensure the clinic runs efficiently while providing outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and obtain medical and vision histories.
• Perform preliminary testing, including:
• Visual acuity
• Auto-refraction
• Lensometry
• Tonometry
• Retinal imaging (fundus photography/OCT)
• Visual field testing
• Color vision and depth perception testing
• Prepare patients for examination by the optometrist.
• Assist the doctor during specialized procedures and contact lens fittings.
• Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, contact lens care, and prescribed medications.
• Document patient information accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Clean, calibrate, and maintain ophthalmic equipment.
• Schedule appointments and assist with patient flow.
• Verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations as needed.
• Assist with optical dispensing, frame selection, and eyewear adjustments when required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional clinical environment.
• Follow HIPAA and all clinic safety and confidentiality policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience as an Optometric Technician, Ophthalmic Technician, Medical Assistant, or in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Certification (COA, CPO, or equivalent) is a plus but not required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Basic computer and EMR proficiency.
• Professional appearance and customer-focused attitude.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and eye anatomy.
• Contact lens training and patient education experience.
• Insurance verification and medical billing knowledge.
• Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Manual dexterity to operate ophthalmic instruments.
• Ability to work with patients of all ages.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
