Optometric Technician (Pretest + Front Desk)

Southside Eyecare & Optical, a locally owned optometry practice in South Anchorage since 1976, is hiring a full-time Optometric Technician. You'll pretest patients and capture imaging for our doctors, and help cover the front desk when the day calls for it. Experience is preferred, but we'll consider training the right person.

Description

If you enjoy working with people, like learning new equipment, and want to be the person who makes a patient's visit easy, we'd like to meet you. You'll be cross-trained in both pretesting and the front desk, so no two days look the same.

What you'll do

In the exam area:

• Take patient histories and note the reason for the visit
• Check visual acuity and run pretesting, including auto-refraction, eye pressure, and visual fields
• Capture Optos retinal images, OCT scans, and corneal topography
• Prepare exam rooms and assist the doctors during exams and in-office procedures
• Keep equipment clean, stocked, and ready

At the front desk, as needed:

• Greet and check in patients, and collect demographic and insurance information
• Answer phones, schedule appointments, and return calls
• Take payments and help with check-out

What we're looking for

• Friendly, clear communicator who stays calm on busy days
• Reliable, on time, and detail oriented
• Comfortable on a computer and quick to pick up new software
• Willing to switch between tech work and the front desk as the day requires
• Optometric, ophthalmic, or medical office experience preferred
• Paraoptometric certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT) or COA is a plus
• High school diploma or equivalent

Schedule: Monday through Friday, daytime hours. No evenings or weekends.
