Optometrist

The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida is seeking to hire a Contract Licensed Optometrist whom will provide comprehensive eye care services to eligible patients, including routine and diabetic eye examinations, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and disorders, diagnostic testing, and ongoing monitoring of ocular health. The Optometrist will evaluate patient symptoms, monitor treatment progress, prescribe corrective lenses and appropriate medical treatments, and refer patients to specialists when additional care is needed.

The Optometrist will promote preventive eye care and educate patients on the relationship between overall health and eye health, including the impact of conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. The Optometrist will also collaborate with Health Department providers to support coordinated care, disease management, patient education, and timely follow-up.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Diagnose eye-related conditions and provide appropriate outpatient eye care.

· Manage and monitor acute and chronic eye diseases and conditions.

· Perform comprehensive routine and diabetic eye examinations, including visual field testing, bilateral dilated retinal examinations, retinal imaging, and other appropriate diagnostic testing; interpret findings to identify and monitor eye disease, including diabetic retinal conditions.

· Assess visual acuity, IOP check, field of vision, depth perception, and other aspects of visual function.

· Obtain and document detailed patient medical histories, including current and past medical conditions and prescription medications.

· Evaluate eye-related symptoms and conditions, including redness, inflammation, discharge, visual disturbances, and other ocular concerns.

· Assess patients for signs of systemic conditions that may affect eye health, including diabetes and hypertension, and coordinate or refer for appropriate follow-up care.

· Perform minor ophthalmic procedures within the provider’s authorized scope of practice.

· Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, corrective lenses, and other appropriate visual aids.

· Provide or coordinate treatment services, including vision therapy and low-vision rehabilitation, as appropriate.

· Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists when conditions require additional evaluation, treatment, or surgical intervention.

· Educate patients regarding eye health, disease prevention, treatment recommendations, and appropriate follow-up care.

· Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with applicable professional, organizational, and regulatory requirements.

· Participates in outreach activities and educational forums to promote eye and general health

TECHNICAL/PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

· Must possess great interpersonal skills

· Detailed oriented

· Knowledge about Tribal Communication is preferred.

· Excellent speaking skills

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

· Doctorate of Optometry

· Active Florida Optometry License

· Minimum of years’ experience working as an optometrist

· Medicare Enrollment preferred

Pay: $91,400.00 - $111,000.00 per year
