  • Engagement Type: 6-Month Contract (Potential for extension)
  • Location: London, UK (Hybrid: 1 day per week onsite, flexible)

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Oracle Apps DBA to manage, optimize, and secure our mission-critical Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) and underlying database infrastructure. This hands-on, enterprise-level role requires expertise across application, database, operating system, and cloud/infrastructure domains. The ideal candidate will possess robust troubleshooting capabilities and practical experience with cloud migration initiatives (OCI or Microsoft Azure).

Core Responsibilities

1. Oracle EBS & Technology Stack Administration

  • Manage and maintain Oracle EBS (R12) across non-production and production environments.
  • Perform application cloning, environment refreshes, and technology stack patching (AD/TXK utilities).
  • Administer application-tier components: WebLogic, Oracle HTTP Server (OHS), Forms, Reports, Concurrent Managers, and Workflow.
  • Oversee context file management, AutoConfig maintenance, and system integration points.

2. Database Administration & High Availability

  • Configure, maintain, and tune high-availability Oracle Databases supporting EBS (including Oracle RAC).
  • Execute database cloning, upgrades, patching, and cross-platform migrations.
  • Conduct performance diagnostics and tuning using AWR, ASH, execution plans, and trace files to resolve locks, resource contention, and wait events.
  • Implement disaster recovery (DR) strategies, RMAN backups, and Oracle Data Guard failovers aligned with RPO/RTO objectives.
  • Administer database security, storage, user permissions, and compliance auditing.

3. Infrastructure, OS & Cloud Engineering

  • Administer Oracle databases and EBS applications on Linux and AIX platforms.
  • Write complex shell scripts (Bash/KornShell) to automate routine operational workflows.
  • Troubleshoot system-level bottlenecks across CPU, memory, filesystem, and storage layers (SAN/NAS).
  • Support cloud migration projects from on-premises infrastructure to OCI or Azure.
  • Ensure secure connectivity, proper network setup (DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancers), and post-migration performance stabilization.

4. Support, Operations & Compliance

  • Provide tier-3 production support and participate in major incident response and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Execute operational changes under standard ITIL frameworks (Incident, Problem, and Change Management).
  • Maintain clear operational runbooks, architecture diagrams, and patching logs.

Candidate Qualifications & Skills

Essential Requirements

  • Experience: 7+ years of hands-on experience in Oracle Database and Oracle Apps DBA roles within enterprise production environments.
  • Oracle EBS: Strong expertise in Oracle EBS R12 architecture, patching (AD/TXK), AutoConfig, and cloning procedures.
  • Oracle Database: Mastery of Oracle Database administration, Real Application Clusters (RAC), RMAN, and performance tuning.
  • Operating Systems: Deep operational knowledge of Linux and AIX environments, alongside advanced shell scripting skills.
  • Support Capabilities: Demonstrated track record in end-to-end troubleshooting across application, database, network, and OS layers.

Preferred / Desirable Skills

  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or Microsoft Azure, including database migration strategies.
  • Replication & Automation: Familiarity with Oracle Golden Gate, Data Guard, Ansible, or Terraform (IaC).
  • Middleware & Security: Proficiency with WebLogic Server, Oracle HTTP Server, and security hardening standards.
  • Frameworks: ITIL process familiarity and experience with enterprise monitoring platforms.
  • Certifications: Official certifications in Oracle Database, Oracle EBS, Linux/AIX, or OCI/Azure.
