Origination Analyst

About the role

You will be responsible for researching prospective acquisition targets, identifying relevant owners and decision-makers, and maintaining the systems that underpins our origination activity. This is not a high-volume telemarketing role. Success requires thoughtful research, strong attention to detail and the ability to distinguish a genuinely relevant business from a generic lead. You will work closely with the investment team to ensure promising businesses are identified, appropriately researched, accurately recorded in our CRM and progressed through the origination pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Research industries, market segments and geographic areas relevant to acquisition strategy
• Identify privately owned businesses that meet defined investment criteria
• Gather and verify information including company ownership, management, services, location, size and other relevant characteristics
• Identify founders, shareholders and senior decision-makers
• Build targeted prospect lists for specific acquisition themes and campaigns
• Use company websites, LinkedIn, business directories, databases and other public sources to develop company profiles
• Create and maintain accurate company and contact records in the CRM
• Track each opportunity through the origination process, from initial identification to investment-team review and outreach
• Conduct preliminary screening of businesses against acquisition criteria
• Prepare concise profiles of promising acquisition candidates

About you

• At least two years of experience in research, lead generation, business development, sales operations, investment support or a similar role
• Strong online research skills and the ability to find reliable information from multiple sources
• Excellent written English and the ability to summarise information clearly and concisely
• High attention to detail, particularly when managing company and contact data
• Strong organisational skills and the discipline to maintain an accurate CRM
• Sound commercial judgement and an interest in understanding how businesses operate
• Confidence working independently in a remote environment
• Ability to manage recurring processes while also investigating less straightforward research questions
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
