Job description:

JOB OVERVIEW

Seeking a skilled Physician Assistant to join a single-surgeon practice. The practice is subspecialized to the hip and pelvis (www.taniaferguson.com) and associated with the Joint Preservation Center. We currently work in an intimate office setting in Midtown, Nashville with two other MDs and a small, dedicated staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Physician Assistant is responsible for all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. This position will work in both inpatient and outpatient situations. Outpatient will involve clinic evaluation of new patients, follow-up patients, and post-surgical patients. This position will include in-patient rounds and surgical assistance during all operations. This is a one-on-one surgical PA position for a surgeon who specializes in hip and pelvis surgery. The practice is a "concierge" touch practice with high level attention to patient diagnosis, education and treatment. Ideal candidates have experience with surgical wound management, experience with operating room techniques and procedures, and have a detailed approach to patient assessment and treatment. We see all levels of patient complexities from hip arthritis requiring hip replacement surgery, to patients who have undergone extensive unsuccessful hip surgeries referred for expertise in diagnosis and treatment. This is not a diverse, high volume orthopedic practice but rather an ultra sub-specialized provider providing the highest level of care to a relatively select group of patients.

The position requires medication prescription, medical record documentation, patient education and some administrative duties associated with surgical scheduling.

The office and OR staff associated with Dr. Ferguson's practice act as a strong team unit. The most important qualities for our PA is interest in acting as a team player, providing meticulously empathetic patient care, and experience with surgery.

Duties:

  • Surgical preoperative and postoperative care as directed by Physician

  • Operating room assistance as directed by Physician including wound closures, patient transfers, documentation and family discussions.

  • Conduct exams and check-ups, order lab tests and prescribe medications

  • Administer medicines, braces, injections and treatments

  • Evaluate responses to treatments and medications

  • Educate and guide patients through completion of their treatment plan including detailed pre surgical education

  • Order, administer and analyze diagnostic tests and advanced imaging

  • Use of the electronic medical record for patient visit documentation and administration

  • Monitor and operate medical equipment

  • Consult with healthcare professionals

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited program
  • Physician Assistant licensure in the state of Tennessee
  • Prescriptive authorization
  • Knowledge of computer-based data management programs and information systems, as well as medical records
  • Participation in patent phone response "call". There is not ER call responsibility with this practice at this time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in verbal and written form, with medical partners at various levels, patients, family members, physicians and representatives of the community
  • Empathy and compassion for patients with complex medical conditions and excellent communication skills.
  • OR experience
  • Ultrasound guided injection experience is a very big advantage
  • Ability to start IVs and perform venipuncture desirable
  • Team player required
  • This is a full time/5 day a week position

This position offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth and development. If you are a dedicated and compassionate Physician Assistant looking to make a difference in patient care, we encourage you to apply.
