OT Nurse

Job Summary

The OT Nurse is responsible for providing safe, sterile, and efficient nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. The role involves assisting surgeons and anesthetists before, during, and after surgery, maintaining OT protocols, and ensuring patient safety and infection control standards at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-operative Responsibilities

Prepare the Operation Theatre as per scheduled surgeries.

Ensure availability and sterility of surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables.

Verify patient identity, consent forms, and surgical checklist.

Assist in patient positioning and pre-operative preparation.

Follow WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and hospital protocols.

Intra-operative Responsibilities

Assist surgeons as Scrub Nurse or Circulating Nurse.

Maintain strict aseptic techniques throughout the procedure.

Anticipate surgical team requirements and provide instruments/materials promptly.

Monitor patient condition and communicate any concerns to the surgical team.

Ensure accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts.

Post-operative Responsibilities

Assist in shifting patients to recovery room/ICU.

Ensure proper documentation of surgical procedures and nursing notes.

Handle and send specimens to the lab as per protocol.

Clean, restock, and prepare OT for subsequent procedures.

Participate in post-operative infection control measures.

Patient Safety & Infection Control

Adhere strictly to infection control, sterilization, and waste management policies.

Follow NABH / JCI / hospital quality standards.

Report incidents, near misses, or equipment malfunction promptly.

Documentation & Coordination

Maintain accurate OT records, count sheets, and nursing documentation.

Coordinate with CSSD, anesthesia, biomedical, and housekeeping teams.

Support audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualification:

GNM / B.Sc Nursing

Experience:

1?3 years of experience in Operation Theatre preferred

Registration:

Valid State Nursing Council registration
