OT SCADA Engineer

Location: Kolding, Denmark

Start Date: 2nd November 2026

End Date: 31st December 2026

Work Style: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day, 5 days per week)

Contract Type: Hourly Rate

Role Objective and Success Criteria

Strengthen the engineering and operational capability supporting wind-farm SCADA systems, fleet-level SCADA services, industrial edge devices, and operational data pipelines. Combine hands-on operational support, lifecycle engineering, and continuous improvement with SCADA engineering and OT system integration for new wind farms. Maintain secure, reliable, and supportable OT systems and data services while balancing operational incidents, lifecycle priorities, and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, integrate, commission, operate, maintain, and improve OT SCADA systems and interfaces across wind assets.
  • Support secure and reliable data flows between plant-level SCADA systems, approved OT integration layers, edge components, operational data platforms, and authorised consumers.
  • Configure, deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, document, and hand over industrial edge devices, connectors, applications, and operational data pipelines.
  • Integrate real-time and historical operational and engineering data using industrial protocols, APIs, databases, and OEM-specific interfaces.
  • Monitor SCADA services and data pipelines for performance degradation, missing or invalid data, and operational failures. Support restoration, data-quality validation, and controlled recovery or backfilling of historical data.
  • Provide engineering-level support for incidents and service requests, including structured troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective or preventive actions.
  • Implement applicable OT engineering and cybersecurity controls, including hardening, access control, network segmentation, and controlled changes.
  • Work with OEMs, suppliers, projects, Operations, control-centre teams, data and analytics teams, cybersecurity, IT, and adjacent OT engineering teams.
  • Maintain technical requirements, solution designs, interface specifications, configuration records, implementation guides, runbooks, support procedures, and audit evidence.
  • Contribute to backlog refinement, estimates, work-package definition, dependency management, risk visibility, and delivery reporting.

Typical Deliverables

  • Validated and documented production deployments accepted by the responsible service team.
  • Site-readiness assessments and integration recommendations.
  • Technical requirements and interface specifications prepared for review and approval.
  • SCADA, edge-device, connector, and data-pipeline configurations, supported by reusable implementation guidance and site-specific as-built records.
  • Monitoring and alerting arrangements, data-quality checks, and documented operational support procedures.
  • Test plans, test evidence, defect resolution records, and acceptance input.
  • Incident investigations, documented root causes, and recommended or implemented corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lifecycle assessments, upgrade or migration plans, and controlled execution of approved changes.

Authority and Accountability

  • Take technical ownership of assigned SCADA, edge-integration, and OT data-flow activities from analysis and design through deployment, handover, and operational support.
  • Recommend technical solutions and lifecycle improvements based on operational risk, data quality, cybersecurity, resilience, and supportability.
  • Coordinate incident recovery and technical delivery across the responsible infrastructure, application, supplier, and project teams.
  • Escalate material operational, cybersecurity, quality, dependency, or delivery risks through the agreed governance routes.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant hands-on OT or SCADA engineering or operational experience; 5 years or more is preferred.
  • Knowledge of wind-turbine and substation SCADA systems, monitoring and control functions, operational data flows, and OT or IT integration boundaries.
  • Practical experience with OPC UA and REST APIs is required.
  • Familiarity with OPC DA, OPC XML-DA, MQTT, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, IEC 61400-25, Modbus TCP, SQL databases, or event-streaming technologies is desirable.
  • Experience transporting, transforming, and validating real-time and historical operational data through industrial or IoT integration architectures; Node-RED experience is advantageous.
  • Understanding of signal mapping, timestamps, data-quality controls, buffering mechanisms, and historical data recovery in operational environments.
  • Experience with industrial edge platforms or gateways, preferably Siemens Industrial Edge or comparable technology.
  • Ability to diagnose end-to-end OT data-flow issues across applications, interfaces, servers, networks, certificates, identities, and source or target systems.
  • Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity, segmentation, secure remote access, hardening, identity and access management, certificates, vulnerability handling, and IEC 62443-aligned practices.
  • Understanding of high availability, monitoring, logging, patching, configuration management, and lifecycle engineering in OT environments.
  • Exposure to cloud-connected OT solutions, industrial IoT architectures, or operational data platforms is advantageous.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence, or equivalent tools, for planning, traceability, documentation, and knowledge management.

Engineering and Delivery Skills

  • Experience coordinating technical activities with suppliers, OEMs, and project stakeholders, including solution validation and acceptance.
  • Experience with incident, problem, change, and configuration-management practices in operational environments.
  • Ability to perform structured troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, risk assessment, and corrective or preventive action planning.
  • Experience with requirements clarification, backlog refinement, acceptance criteria, testing, commissioning, and transition to operations.
  • Ability to estimate work, identify dependencies, communicate constraints, and deliver within agreed operational or project priorities.
  • Understanding of Development, Test, Acceptance, and Production environments, including controlled releases, rollback planning, and change approval in availability- and safety-critical OT systems.
  • Ability to produce clear technical designs, procedures, test documentation, implementation guides, and operational handover material.
  • Structured and proactive problem-solving, clear stakeholder communication, and calm performance during high-priority incidents.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating across projects, Operations, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Control or Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial IT, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy Systems, or a comparable field. Equivalent relevant professional experience may also be considered.
  • Experience in wind energy, power generation, utilities, or comparable critical-infrastructure environments is preferred.
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required.
  • ISA or IEC 62443, GICSP, or equivalent OT and ICS cybersecurity training is desirable.
  • Vendor-specific training covering Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Nordex, Siemens Industrial Edge, or comparable SCADA and data-platform technologies is advantageous.

Working Conditions

  • The assignment may be extended into 2027, subject to approval of the client's 2027 budget and a subsequent extension request.
  • The role may become subject to security clearance, and candidates must be able to meet the applicable screening requirements.
