Outside Machinist Foreman

Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Outside Machinist Foreman to lead our marine maintenance team in ensuring the optimal performance and safety of water transportation equipment. This role involves overseeing complex mechanical and electrical systems, managing maintenance operations, and guiding a skilled team of technicians. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach, exceptional technical expertise, and strong leadership skills to drive efficiency and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in marine machinery repair and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of outside machinists, ensuring timely completion of maintenance, repair, and overhaul tasks on marine engines, propulsion systems, and associated mechanical and electrical components.
• Interpret technical schematics, drawings, and manuals to diagnose issues accurately and develop effective repair strategies.
• Oversee the maintenance of ship electrical systems, marine propulsion systems, water transportation equipment, and diesel engines using precision measuring instruments, calipers, ohmmeters, and power tools.
• Coordinate rigging operations, assembly work, and heavy lifting activities with safety as a priority using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Conduct troubleshooting for electrical diagnostics, marine electrical systems issues, and engineering problems to ensure reliable vessel operation.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and compliance with safety standards.
• Ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols including PPE use, proper handling of hand tools, power tools, sheet metal work, soldering techniques, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) procedures.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a service technician or mechanic with strong background in marine engine repair, mechanical systems repair, electrical troubleshooting, and ship electrical systems maintenance.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with prior experience supervising technical teams or foreman roles in marine or heavy equipment environments.
• Extensive knowledge of schematics interpretation, technical drawings, assembly processes, and engineering troubleshooting methods.
• Hands-on experience with marine propulsion systems maintenance, diesel mechanics, water transportation equipment upkeep, and marine electrical systems troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools including soldering equipment; familiarity with sheet metal work; use of precision measuring instruments such as calipers; ohmmeters; and other diagnostic tools.
• Strong mechanical knowledge combined with experience in vehicle maintenance or heavy machinery servicing is highly desirable.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during routine inspections or repairs.
• Excellent customer service skills to coordinate effectively with vessel crews and other stakeholders.
• Certification or experience from military service related to mechanical or electrical systems is a plus.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
