Outside Plant Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with a telecommunications company, is seeking an Outside Plant (OSP) Planning Engineer to support customer-driven growth across a Local/ILEC telecommunications network. This role will focus primarily on the F1 feeder-fiber network: assessing available capacity, tracing routes, identifying where the network needs reinforcement, and preparing clear planning packages for Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess F1 feeder-fiber capacity and routing to support new customer demand and network growth.
• Review network records and maps using systems such as TIRKS, GSA (Geospatial Analysis), and NDS (Network Design System).
• Identify capacity constraints, gaps, and reinforcement needs; recommend practical solutions that support service delivery.
• Develop planning-level scopes, cost estimates, project documentation, and Engineering handoff packages.
• Apply established planning standards and documented processes while managing assigned work and priorities independently.
• Communicate findings and planning recommendations clearly to Engineering and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of OSP network engineering or planning experience, or equivalent experience doing comparable OSP planning or engineering work.
• A strong understanding of telecommunications outside plant, including aerial, underground, and buried fiber facilities, utility vaults, and conduit.
• Experience with OSP network capacity, routing, design, or reinforcement. Direct feeder-fiber or F1 planning experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• The ability to organize and complete work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with TIRKS, GSA, and/or NDS.
• Experience supporting Fiber to the Tower or Fiber to the Business projects.
• Familiarity with Google Earth, Copilot, or PowerPoint.
