What they need

Outside Sales Representative

Electrical Industry | West Virginia

Sales Marketing Group Inc. (SMG) | Full time | Immediate opening

Base salary: $75,000–$95,000 annually, based on relevant experience and qualifications.

Put your electrical industry experience to work

You know the products, the people, and what it takes to get a job done. Bring that experience to Sales Marketing Group Inc. (SMG) and build a career helping electrical distributors and contractors find the right solutions.

We are hiring an Outside Sales Representative to serve our West Virginia territory. We welcome candidates from electrical distribution, electrical contracting, electrical manufacturing, and related industry roles. If you are an IBEW electrician or another experienced electrical professional ready to move from installation into sales, we encourage you to apply. Prior outside sales experience is helpful, but it is not required.

About SMG

SMG is a manufacturers’ representative agency serving the electrical industry. We have been in business for more than 30 years, with strong ethical and moral values at the center of how we work. To us, that means honest communication, keeping our commitments, treating people with respect, and building relationships that last.

You will represent electrical manufacturers, work with our sales support team, and develop your product knowledge through SMG and manufacturer training.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain relationships with electrical distributors, contractors, and other customers across the assigned West Virginia territory.

  • Visit distributor branches, contractor offices, and project sites to understand customer needs and identify opportunities for the manufacturers we represent.

  • Grow existing accounts and develop new business through regular customer calls, referrals, prospecting, and consistent follow through.

  • Introduce products, explain their applications, and deliver practical product demonstrations and training.

  • Coordinate quotations and project opportunities with our sales support team and manufacturer partners.

  • Plan your territory coverage, document customer activity and opportunities, and work with management on sales goals.

  • Participate in joint sales calls, manufacturer training, trade events, and customer meetings; help resolve questions and concerns after the sale.

What you bring

  • Relevant electrical industry experience, whether in distribution, contracting, installation, manufacturing, or a related technical or customer service role.

  • An ability to listen, explain products clearly, build trust, and follow through on commitments.

  • Strong organization and initiative, with the ability to plan customer visits and manage responsibilities independently.

  • Comfort using email, Microsoft Office, and sales tracking tools, with a willingness to learn new systems.

  • A willingness to learn our manufacturer lines and develop your sales skills.

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.

A college degree is not required. Trade training, an electrical apprenticeship, and practical industry experience are valued. Existing West Virginia customer relationships, product application knowledge, and sales experience are helpful.

Who should apply

Your background may include inside or outside sales, counter sales, quotations, project management, purchasing, estimating, electrical installation, supervision, or manufacturer support. Experience with an electrical distributor is welcome, as is experience with an electrical contractor or manufacturer.

You do not need a traditional sales resume to be considered. If you understand the industry and enjoy working with people, tell us how your experience would help you succeed in this role.

Compensation and benefits

  • Annual base salary of $75,000–$95,000, based on relevant experience and qualifications.

  • Medical, vision and dental insurance; life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.

  • Paid time off (PTO).

  • SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with company match.

  • SMG and manufacturer product training, with support from our sales support team.

Territory and travel

This is a customer facing territory sales role serving West Virginia. Regular travel to customer locations and project sites is required, with occasional overnight travel and participation in training or industry events.

Apply now

We are hiring now and reviewing applications as they arrive. Apply through this posting with your resume or a brief summary of your electrical industry experience. Tell us where you are based and why this opportunity interests you.
