Packaging Development & Procurement Lead (Food Packaging)

Key Responsibilities

• Plan packaging material requirements based on sales forecasts, production plans, and inventory levels to ensure timely availability.
• Manage packaging costs, monitor material usage, and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
• Lead packaging development for new products, including material selection, specifications, artwork coordination, and approval.
• Coordinate packaging samples, production trials, and machine testing to ensure compatibility with production lines.
• Work closely with Production, Planning, Quality Assurance, Procurement, suppliers, and customers to resolve packaging issues.
• Review supplier quotations, negotiate pricing, and manage minimum order quantities, tooling costs, and delivery lead times.
• Develop alternative packaging materials and suppliers to improve cost efficiency and reduce supply risks.
• Monitor supplier performance, and coordinate supplier evaluations and improvement activities.
• Maintain accurate packaging specifications, material codes, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Manage packaging changes, artwork revisions, and obsolete materials.
• Ensure packaging meets customer requirements, quality standards, food safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Monitor project timelines, and ensure packaging readiness for product launches.
• Prepare and monitor packaging cost-saving reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Technology, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field.
• Experience in packaging development, packaging procurement, NPD, or manufacturing operations.
• Experience in food manufacturing or FMCG is preferred.
• Knowledge of flexible packaging, printed packaging, artwork processes, and production-line compatibility.
• Understanding of food safety systems, document control, and BRC requirements is an advantage.
• Strong negotiation, supplier management, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
