At Yards, we believe in working hard, having fun, and giving back. Our Brew Unto Others motto reflects our commitment to quality, community, and the people who make it all possible.

Join the Yards Packaging Team!

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Packaging Line Box Shop Operator to support the safe and efficient operation of our can and bottle packaging lines.

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring packaging equipment, ensuring accurate product configurations, maintaining quality standards, and supporting efficient production flow.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, organized, safety-conscious, and enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, monitor, and shut down assigned can and bottle packaging equipment, including carton and tray formers, PakTech applicators, case erectors, bottle packing equipment, and case sealers.
  • Perform equipment startup checks, approved changeovers, operating adjustments, and shutdown procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Verify work orders, packaging materials, product SKUs, and pack configurations to ensure accuracy before and during production.
  • Monitor packaging quality, including carton formation, carrier application, seals, and overall package condition. Identify and report defects or inconsistencies promptly.
  • Support variety-pack production by verifying correct product combinations, quantities, and packaging specifications.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of packaging materials and coordinate with Packaging and Warehouse teams to minimize interruptions.
  • Identify and communicate equipment jams, material shortages, quality concerns, and downtime. Perform basic troubleshooting within authorized limits and escalate mechanical issues when necessary.
  • Operate forklifts and powered pallet jacks only after completing required training and obtaining authorization.
  • Use tablet-based inventory systems to track packaging materials, record usage, scrap, damaged materials, and production downtime.
  • Assist with material organization, inventory reconciliation, palletizing, and other packaging-related activities as assigned.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while following established food safety, housekeeping, and equipment cleaning procedures.
  • Follow all workplace safety requirements, including PPE, machine guarding, safe equipment operation, and applicable lockout/tagout procedures within authorized training.
  • Communicate production updates, equipment concerns, and outstanding issues during shift handoffs.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to support production goals, continuous improvement, and overall operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience operating packaging machinery in a manufacturing, production, or beverage environment preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to operate production equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with equipment changeovers, material handling, and production processes is a plus.
  • Ability to follow written instructions, work orders, equipment procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Basic math, counting, and recordkeeping skills with strong attention to accuracy.
  • Comfortable using tablets, computers, or inventory management systems.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Dependable attendance, willingness to learn, and commitment to workplace safety and product quality.
  • Forklift or powered pallet jack experience is a plus; required training and authorization must be completed before operation.

Work Environment & Schedule

This is a full-time position with assigned production shifts, generally ranging from 8 to 10 hours, depending on operational needs. Overtime and occasional weekend coverage may be required.

The position involves standing, walking, bending, reaching, and handling packaging materials in an active production environment. Employees must follow established safety procedures and use appropriate material-handling equipment or team assistance when necessary.

Reasonable accommodations may be provided to qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the position.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Medical, Vision, and Dental insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
