L P Foreman & Sons Ltd is an established Essex-based manufacturer of specialist transit and export packaging, supplying customers in sectors including aerospace, defence, medical and engineering.

We design and manufacture bespoke packaging using corrugated board, timber and foam, often solving difficult packaging and protection problems for our customers.

We have built our reputation on good design, quality manufacturing and fantastic customer service. We aim never to let a customer down.

We are now looking for a Packaging Sales Engineer to join our team and help us grow the business.

About the role

This is a hands-on sales role combining existing account development with new business generation.

You will look after a number of established customers, develop those relationships and identify opportunities for additional business.

At the same time, you will be expected to find and open new doors.

You will research prospective customers, use telephone, email and LinkedIn to make contact, arrange meetings and visits, understand their requirements and work with our design and production teams to develop the right packaging solution.

You will:

• Develop and maintain existing customer relationships.
• Identify opportunities to increase business within existing accounts.
• Research and approach new prospective customers.
• Generate leads through telephone, email, LinkedIn and other methods.
• Arrange customer meetings and site visits.
• Understand customers' packaging requirements and problems.
• Work with our designers and production team to develop solutions.
• Prepare and follow up quotations.
• Manage opportunities through to order.
• Maintain an active sales pipeline.

What we're looking for

Packaging experience would be an advantage, particularly knowledge of corrugated, timber, plywood or foam, but it is not essential.

We would also consider someone with a background in industrial sales, engineering, manufacturing or a related field.

More important is your attitude and ability to develop business.

You should be:

• Commercially minded and motivated to win new business.
• Confident speaking to customers and prospective customers.
• Comfortable making telephone and email approaches.
• Organised and persistent with follow-up.
• Practical and technically minded.
• A good communicator and relationship builder.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Curious about customers' businesses and able to identify opportunities.
