Packing and Shipping Specialist

Job Summary

We’re hiring a Packing and Shipping Specialist to get customer orders packed and out the door before the carrier arrives. You’ll spend most of your shift at a packing bench, matching items to the order slip and wrapping them so nothing breaks on the way to the customer. Mornings are usually slower, that’s when deliveries get shelved. Afternoons fill up. Pickup time is fixed, so we plan the day around having every order sealed and staged by then, and a package that misses the truck waits until tomorrow. If you’re unsure about an item, ask first.

Responsibilities

• Packing orders into boxes and mailers.
• Check each item against the packing slip before sealing.
• Label printing.
• Unloading incoming cartons and shelving them, which sometimes means lifting heavier boxes, so bend your knees and ask a coworker for a hand when something’s awkward.
• Restock tape, bubble wrap, and boxes as they run low.
• Scanning finished packages for carrier pickup.
• Sweeping the packing area at the end of the shift.

Qualifications

• You catch small mistakes, like a wrong size or a missing item, even when the afternoon rush hits.
• Being comfortable with a computer is enough to scan labels and pull up an order on screen.
• If you can read English well enough to follow packing slips and carrier labels, you’ll generally do fine here.
• Showing up on time for scheduled shifts matters, since the shipping cutoff doesn’t wait for anyone.
• When several orders need to go out at once, you work out which ones ship first and handle those before the rest.
• Being a team player helps, because each order passes through a few hands before it leaves.
• Willingness to learn how we do things, and to ask when you’re not sure, counts for a lot.

Pay: $23.62 - $28.45 per hour

Expected hours: 33.0 – 67.0 per week
