Packline Machine Operator

The Packline Machine Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and accurate operation of packing-line machinery and equipment within the packhouse.

The role is full-time, with occasional weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, start, operate and shut down assigned packline machinery in accordance with operating procedures.
• Ensure machines are correctly configured for the product, punnet, packaging format, label and customer specification being packed.
• Carry out product, packaging and line changeovers efficiently and accurately.
• Monitor machinery throughout production and make appropriate operating adjustments to maintain line efficiency.
• Monitor pack weights, sealing, labelling, coding and general presentation as applicable to the equipment being operated.
• Identify machine faults, stoppages or abnormal operation and carry out basic troubleshooting.
• Escalate mechanical, electrical or recurring equipment issues promptly to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel.
• Minimise production downtime by responding quickly to minor stoppages, blockages and operating issues.
• Assist with planned preventative maintenance, routine inspections and basic machine maintenance where required.
• Ensure guards, emergency stops, sensors and other safety devices are in place and functioning correctly before and during operation.
• Work with Hygiene Team to maintain machinery and the surrounding work area to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
• Complete relevant production, machine, downtime, changeover and quality records accurately.
• Monitor the use of packaging materials and help minimise product and packaging waste.
• Carry out other reasonable packhouse duties as required during quieter production periods.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a fast-paced packhouse team.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Reliable and capable of taking responsibility for assigned equipment.

Desirable:

• Previous experience operating packing, food-processing or production machinery.
• Experience with weighing, sealing, labelling, coding, conveyor or automated packing equipment.
• Experience carrying out machine changeovers and basic fault-finding.
