Job Summary:
Accessium Group is seeking a PACS & RIS Administrator with consultative expertise, technical support proficiency, and deep knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS), imaging informatics, Health Level Seven (HL7), and Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) to join our Accessium Group imaging support team. This role requires a professional who thrives in a consultative, hands-on environment and enjoys solving complex challenges in radiology IT. This position will work with multiple Accessium Group clients at the same time. The individual will balance daily support requests, active projects, and deadlines across different client environments. The ability to shift between client needs, keep separate client documentation, communicate progress, and work with leadership to prioritize competing demands is essential.
The successful candidate will manage, optimize, and integrate multiple imaging informatics platforms, with a heavy focus on RIS and related interoperability, to support reliable radiology operations through coordinated team coverage, approved changes, and timely escalation.
This position is instrumental in maintaining system integrity, enhancing performance, and supporting our mission to deliver outstanding patient care through imaging technology and practical workflow improvements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support for both radiology-specific and general IT issues that affect imaging applications and workflows, coordinating with infrastructure, networking, security, and helpdesk teams as needed.
- Support multiple clients at the same time while managing concurrent support tickets, implementation activities, and project deadlines. Escalate competing priorities and resource needs to Accessium leadership.
- Develop a deep understanding of each customer's PACS and RIS environments, including workflows, integration points, and data exchange requirements and maintain current documentation for each assigned client.
- Collaborate with leadership on national consulting projects involving PACS, RIS, HIS, HL7 interfaces, and imaging informatics.
- Take a lead role in RIS administration, including managing patient scheduling modules, report distribution, and worklist optimization.
- Oversee and maintain PACS and RIS systems to ensure data integrity, workflow efficiency, and seamless interoperability with affiliated systems.
- Plan, install, configure, test, and support PACS, RIS, and ancillary systems in alignment with departmental and client needs, using documented requirements, test plans, approved change windows, rollback plans, customer acceptance, and support handoffs.
- Configure and troubleshoot DICOM and HL7 integrations in accordance with applicable standards and customer requirements. Investigate order, patient update, result, routing, worklist, and patient/exam matching issues with the relevant teams and vendors.
- Proactively monitor and analyze system performance, recommending and implementing stability and efficiency improvements through the approved change process.
- Serve as a primary liaison between radiology departments, IT teams, and external vendors for both PACS and RIS initiatives.
- Lead technology planning and assist in implementing new imaging and informatics projects.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to other imaging informatics staff.
- Design and deliver training programs for PACS, RIS, and related imaging informatics tools.
- Document incidents, troubleshooting steps, vendor cases, customer updates, and resolutions in Accessium’s designated ticketing system. Maintain support procedures and share knowledge with the team.
- Administer application access within assigned authority, protect patient information, and participate in downtime procedures and recovery testing in coordination with the responsible infrastructure and security teams.
- Participate in after-hours support, scheduled maintenance, and go-live coverage according to the established team schedule and escalation process.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience administering PACS and RIS in a healthcare setting, including workflow optimization and interface management.
- Strong understanding of HL7 messaging, DICOM standards, and imaging informatics integration.
- Demonstrated ability to support multiple clients at the same time, manage competing priorities, maintain organized client records, and communicate clearly with clinical teams, technical staff, vendors, and leadership.
- Familiarity with operating systems, networking, and healthcare IT environments.
- Ability to analyze and improve system performance across multiple imaging platforms.
- Strong consultative skills, with experience leading projects and training initiatives.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and medical records confidentiality.
- Experience with voice recognition software/hardware and previous clinical imaging workflow or imaging application support experience is preferred.
- Experience as a radiologic technologist is a strong asset, especially for candidates who can confidently explain and guide others through the full spectrum of radiology workflows.
- Travel up to 25-50% is required.
