What they need
Job Overview
I take great pride in the work that I do. I expect you to take that same pride in your work. For this reason, only extraordinary gentlemen work for me.
I am seeking a skilled and dependable Painting Technician to join my team. The ideal candidate takes pride in their craftsmanship, works efficiently, follows direction well, and understands that professional painting is about much more than simply applying paint.
As a Painting Technician, you will perform residential and small commercial painting work from preparation through final finish. You will be responsible for completing assigned work safely, efficiently, and to Blackfish Painting’s standards of craftsmanship.
This is a hands-on position. You will work alongside other Painting Technicians and under the direction of a Painting Team Lead. You will be expected to understand your assigned tasks, communicate effectively, maintain an organized work area, care for company equipment, and complete your work within the production expectations established for the project.
I do my work the right way because that is the way it is supposed to be done, not because the customer is watching. I expect the same from you.
Key Responsibilities
Painting & Production
- Perform interior and exterior painting, including preparation, priming, brushing, rolling, and spraying according to experience and training.
- Properly prepare surfaces through scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, cleaning, masking, and priming.
- Apply paints, stains, primers, and other coatings to professional standards.
- Follow the scope of work and Team Lead direction while meeting established quality and production expectations.
- Protect customer property and inspect your work for quality before considering a task complete.
Jobsite Organization & Equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite, including daily setup and cleanup.
- Properly use, clean, maintain, and store company tools and equipment.
- Use materials responsibly and notify the Team Lead of needed supplies or equipment problems.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work cooperatively with the Team Lead and fellow Painting Technicians.
- Follow instructions, accept constructive feedback, and ask questions when expectations are unclear.
- Promptly communicate problems, damage, unexpected conditions, or potential scope changes.
- Maintain a professional and respectful attitude toward teammates, clients, and other trades.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and required PPE procedures.
- Properly use ladders, fall protection, respirators, and other safety equipment.
- Maintain a safe work area and immediately report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.
Client Service & Professionalism
- Treat clients, their homes or businesses, and their property with care and respect.
- Maintain professional language, appearance, and behavior on the jobsite.
- Refer questions about scope, pricing, or project changes to the Team Lead or Owner.
- Leave the jobsite clean and professional at the end of each workday.
Timekeeping & Accountability
- Arrive on time, prepared to work, and accurately clock in and out.
- Remain productive during working hours and follow company break procedures.
- Take responsibility for the quality and completion of assigned work.
- Promptly communicate issues affecting attendance, schedule, or productivity.
Qualifications
- Professional residential and/or small commercial painting experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of surface preparation, painting tools, coatings, and brush-and-roll application.
- Spray experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to understand work orders and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, productivity, and teamwork.
- Willingness to learn new products, techniques, equipment, and procedures.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of painting, including lifting, ladder work, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working at heights.
The Blackfish Painting Standard
At Blackfish Painting, craftsmanship means doing the job correctly even when no one is watching.
A Painting Technician is expected to take ownership of their work. If something isn’t right, fix it. If you don’t know how to do something, ask. If you make a mistake, own it. If you see a problem, communicate it.
Quality and productivity are not opposing goals. A professional craftsman learns how to produce excellent work efficiently and consistently.
The Painting Team Lead is responsible for running the project, but every Painting Technician is responsible for contributing to its success.
If you want to become an extraordinary gentleman and be known as a true craftsman, consider applying to join my team.
Yours in Service,
Adam
