About the role

Barrett Bros Smash Repairs is seeking a qualified Panel Beater to join our team on a full-time basis at our Fyshwick, ACT location. In this role, you will be responsible for restoring damaged vehicles to their original condition through expert panel beating and metalwork. This position is integral to our operations, directly impacting customer satisfaction and maintaining our reputation as a leading smash repair specialist in the region.

What you'll be doing

• Assess vehicle damage and determine the most appropriate repair methods and techniques
• Use hand tools, power tools and specialised panel beating equipment to reshape and restore vehicle panels
• Perform metal straightening, removing dents and creases whilst maintaining structural integrity
• Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting by sanding, filling and priming damaged areas
• Work on both fibreglass and steel components, adapting techniques as required
• Ensure all repairs comply with safety standards and manufacturer specifications
• Communicate with supervisors, collision assessors and customers regarding repair progress and timelines
• Maintain a safe and organised workshop environment, adhering to health and safety regulations
• Collaborate with other tradespeople including spray painters and mechanical technicians
• Document repair work accurately for quality assurance and customer records

What we're looking for

• Current and valid Panel Beater qualification or equivalent trade certification recognised in Australia
• Proven experience working in a smash repair or automotive body shop environment
• Strong technical knowledge of panel beating techniques, vehicle construction and damage assessment
• Proficiency with panel beating hand tools, power tools and specialised workshop equipment
• Ability to read and interpret vehicle specifications, technical drawings and repair manuals
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Current driver's licence and reliable transportation
• Physical fitness and ability to perform manual work, including standing, lifting and working at various heights
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and willingness to maintain high safety standards
