About the Opportunity
An established and highly respected San Francisco law firm is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Paralegal to join its Schools Group. Known for its collaborative culture, close-knit team, and beautiful downtown San Francisco offices, the firm offers a welcoming professional environment where employees are valued and long-term relationships are encouraged.
This is a newly created, high-visibility position offering the opportunity to work directly with the Schools Group Practice Chair. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted right hand, providing proactive, sophisticated paralegal support on labor and employment matters, including workplace investigations, employee handbooks, personnel policies, and related employment issues.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced paralegal who enjoys building strong working relationships, taking ownership of their responsibilities, and becoming an indispensable member of a busy legal practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Schools Group Practice Chair, providing high-level paralegal support across a variety of labor and employment matters.
- Assist with workplace investigations, including organizing documentation, reviewing relevant records, preparing interview materials, and tracking investigation-related information.
- Support the preparation, review, and maintenance of employee handbooks, workplace policies, and employment-related documents.
- Assist attorneys with employee relations matters, personnel issues, and labor and employment compliance projects.
- Conduct legal and factual research and organize findings for attorney review.
- Draft and proofread correspondence, memoranda, summaries, and other legal documents.
- Organize and maintain confidential personnel records, case files, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate deadlines, meetings, document requests, and follow-up activities.
- Anticipate the Practice Chair's needs, manage competing priorities, and ensure matters move forward efficiently.
- Collaborate with attorneys and other team members while maintaining the highest level of professionalism, accuracy, and discretion.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Labor & Employment Paralegal, preferably with exposure to workplace investigations, employee handbooks, employment policies, and employee relations matters.
- Strong understanding of employment-related legal processes and documentation.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong judgment, initiative, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A proactive, resourceful approach and the ability to anticipate attorney needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build a trusted, productive working relationship with senior attorneys.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities.
- California paralegal qualifications preferred or required, subject to confirmation.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- High-visibility role: Work directly with the Schools Group Practice Chair in a newly created position.
- Meaningful responsibilities: Become a trusted partner rather than simply providing traditional administrative support.
- Close-knit culture: Join a collegial group of professionals who work closely together and value their team.
- Beautiful workplace: Enjoy an exceptional office environment in downtown San Francisco.
- Hybrid flexibility: Four days onsite initially, transitioning to three days onsite.
- Competitive compensation: Up to $145,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
