Anchor Bay Law, PLLC
Location: New Baltimore, Michigan
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

About Our Firm

Anchor Bay Law, PLLC is a busy, veteran-owned, full-service law firm located in historic downtown New Baltimore, Michigan. We represent individuals, families, and businesses throughout Southeast Michigan in a broad range of legal matters, including civil litigation, estate planning, probate administration, real estate, business law, personal injury, criminal defense, and related matters.

We pride ourselves on providing high-quality legal representation, meticulous attention to detail, and personalized service to our clients. Our practice is diverse, challenging, and rewarding, offering the opportunity to work on a wide variety of legal matters rather than being confined to one narrow area of law.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated Paralegal to join our firm. The ideal candidate will have experience in Michigan legal practice, strong legal drafting and case management skills, and the ability to manage multiple assignments efficiently and accurately.

This position involves substantial hands-on legal work, direct interaction with attorneys and clients, and responsibility for helping move cases and transactions forward from inception through resolution.

We are particularly interested in someone who takes initiative, works well independently, follows through on assignments, and can anticipate what needs to be done without requiring constant supervision.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Civil Litigation: Assist with all phases of civil litigation, including preparing and formatting complaints, answers, affirmative defenses, motions, briefs, affidavits, notices, proposed orders, subpoenas, and other pleadings and court filings.
  • Discovery: Prepare and organize interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, discovery responses, document productions, and deposition materials. Track discovery deadlines and coordinate with clients to obtain necessary information and documentation.
  • Court Filings and Case Management: File and serve documents through Michigan electronic filing systems; monitor court dockets; maintain litigation calendars; track critical deadlines; and assist with hearing, mediation, deposition, and trial preparation.
  • Estate Planning: Assist in preparing wills, revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, patient advocate designations, deeds, trust amendments, assignments, and other estate planning documents.
  • Probate and Estate Administration: Prepare petitions, applications, inventories, accountings, notices, proposed orders, and other probate documents, including applicable Michigan SCAO forms. Assist with estate administration and communication with personal representatives and beneficiaries.
  • Real Estate and Business Matters: Assist with preparing and reviewing deeds, purchase agreements, leases, land contracts, corporate documents, LLC formations, operating agreements, contracts, and related transactional documents.
  • Legal Research and Document Preparation: Perform legal and factual research as directed, organize supporting authorities and exhibits, and assist with preparing legal correspondence and other written materials.
  • Client Communication: Communicate professionally and courteously with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other parties; request and organize client information; provide appropriate case updates; and assist in coordinating appointments and meetings.
  • File and Office Management: Maintain organized electronic and physical files, monitor outstanding assignments, assist with billing and timekeeping, and support the general administrative needs of a busy law office.
  • Quality Control: Proofread and review documents for accuracy, consistency, grammar, formatting, and completeness before submission or filing.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1–3 years of experience working as a paralegal or in a comparable legal support role.
  • Experience with Michigan civil litigation, court procedures, discovery, and electronic filing.
  • Strong legal writing, proofreading, document preparation, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and general office technology.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Court Rules, court filing procedures, deadlines, and legal document formatting.
  • Experience with probate, estate planning, real estate, or business matters is highly desirable.
  • Paralegal certification, an associate degree, or a bachelor's degree in a related field is beneficial but not required for candidates with strong relevant experience.

Personal Qualities We Value

Beyond technical qualifications, we are looking for someone who is:

  • Organized and dependable: Able to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and responsibilities without allowing important details to fall through the cracks.
  • Detail-oriented: Takes pride in producing accurate, polished, professional legal documents.
  • Self-motivated: Takes ownership of assignments, exercises sound judgment, and proactively follows up on outstanding matters.
  • Adaptable: Comfortable working across different areas of law and learning unfamiliar procedures.
  • Professional and personable: Communicates effectively with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and colleagues.
  • Efficient and resourceful: Comfortable using technology to streamline workflows and improve productivity.
  • Committed to confidentiality: Understands the importance of discretion, professionalism, and protecting sensitive client information.

Why Join Anchor Bay Law?

This is an opportunity to become an important part of a local law firm where your contributions will be meaningful and appreciated.

Unlike positions at larger firms where paralegals may be assigned a narrow range of repetitive tasks, this role offers exposure to a broad variety of legal issues, meaningful substantive assignments, and the opportunity to work closely with experienced counsel.

We value professionalism, initiative, sound judgment, and a strong work ethic. We are looking for someone interested in building a long-term professional relationship with our firm and contributing to its continued success.

Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated ability.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
