What they need

Take your paramedic experience beyond the traditional ambulance setting with an international healthcare assignment on Diego Garcia, a remote island in the Indian Ocean. You'll provide emergency medical care, support patient stabilization and transfers, and work alongside a clinical team delivering essential healthcare services.

At International SOS Government Medical Services, you'll support healthcare programs that improve patient care and operational readiness across the U.S. and internationally. Founded in 1984, International SOS operates in more than 90 countries, delivering healthcare, medical assistance, emergency response, and workforce support services worldwide.

As a Paramedic, you will respond to urgent and emergent presentations, manage patients within your authorized practice scope, and work with the medical team to support ambulance care and transfers. This internationally based healthcare assignment includes patient monitoring, clinical handovers, emergency equipment checks, and collaboration with authorized providers during routine and urgent services.

Patients may need care beyond what the local clinic can provide, so the ability to recognize escalation needs and communicate clearly during patient movement is important. You will also support medical readiness tasks when assigned, use the approved record system, and help keep airway supplies, monitors, oxygen equipment, medication kits, and trauma equipment prepared for the next call. You will also report patient safety issues and equipment concerns promptly through established clinical channels.

Employment Type: Full-time

Assignment Details: This position requires relocation to Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, for the duration of the assignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and triage patients, deliver authorized emergency interventions, and stabilize medical or trauma presentations under approved protocols.
  • Provide ambulance and prehospital care, reassess patients during movement, and communicate comprehensive handovers to receiving clinicians.
  • Coordinate referrals, transfers, and medical evacuation activities with clinical personnel and designated medical operations teams.
  • Support routine and urgent care, medical screenings, preventive health activities, and readiness assessments within authorized scope.
  • Document assessment findings, treatment, vital signs, interventions, and disposition in the designated electronic health record.
  • Check oxygen, airway, monitoring, trauma, and medication equipment; follow safety and infection-control procedures and participate in emergency drills.

You will draw on your full paramedic skill set while working closely with a clinical team responsible for care beyond the initial response.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted Paramedic license or professional registration issued by a recognized emergency medical services regulatory authority in the candidate's country or jurisdiction of licensure; subject to approval and applicable credentialing requirements.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Paramedic experience; current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent; completion of an accredited or otherwise recognized Paramedic training program, or accepted equivalent training, in any country or jurisdiction.
  • Ability to relocate to Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia for the duration of the assignment and meet applicable site access and personnel approval requirements.
  • Availability for established clinic hours, assigned on-call arrangements and emergency response requirements; ability to read, write, and speak English for effective communication.
  • Ability to work seated or standing for prolonged periods, with bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 lbs as required.

Preferred

  • Experience providing healthcare in international, island-based, or operational healthcare environments.
