Duties

• Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans across various subjects, including literacy, math, and curriculum development.
• Support students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and behavioral disorders, by providing behavioral management and behavior support strategies.
• Offer physical assistance and classroom support for students with developmental disabilities, ensuring their safety and engagement during activities.
• Use communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate effective interactions with students who have communication challenges.
• Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and special educators—to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs).
• Manage classroom behavior through positive reinforcement techniques, maintaining a supportive learning environment.
• Assist with lesson planning, early childhood education activities, toddler care, preschool routines, and Montessori-based approaches to foster childhood development.

Requirements

• Prior experience working with children or in classroom support roles within special education settings.
• Knowledge of Deaf education and experience working with individuals who use American Sign Language (ASL).
• Familiarity with behavior management strategies for students with disabilities and behavioral disorders.
• Understanding of childhood development principles, early childhood education practices, and classroom management techniques.
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with teachers, therapists, parents, and other professionals to support student success.
• Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorders or other developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
• Strong communication skills paired with excellent writing abilities for documentation and report writing related to IEPs and progress notes.
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professionalism at all times.
