Reports To: Director of Specialized Services and/or Designee

Position Summary

The Paraprofessional supports students academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally in accordance with their IEPs, 504 Plans, BIPs, Safety Plans, and other support plans. Working collaboratively with school staff, the Paraprofessional helps create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success and independence.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStudent Support and Instruction

• Provide direct support to students as outlined in educational plans.
• Assist with accommodations, modifications, assignments, and classroom participation.
• Reinforce academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and independent living skills.
• Support student engagement, organization, transitions, and independence.
• Assist during school activities, field trips, and community-based instruction.

Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support

• Implement behavior support strategies and safety plans.
• Use de-escalation techniques and support student self-regulation.
• Monitor and document student behavior as needed.
• Report safety concerns and crisis situations immediately.

Documentation and Compliance

• Complete weekly Paraprofessional Support Logs and maintain accurate records.
• Assist with data collection and compliance activities.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with school, state, and federal requirements.

IEP, 504, and Testing Support

• Attend IEP and 504 meetings when requested.
• Share information regarding student progress and support needs.
• Provide testing support and implement approved accommodations.

Supervision and School Support

• Supervise students during Silent Lunch, arrival, dismissal, and transitions.
• Support students using school transportation when needed.
• Assist with school operations, including file organization, parent outreach, material preparation, and school events.
• Participate in Wednesday professional development or assigned support tasks.

Medical and Emergency Support

• Assist students with health-related needs as directed.
• Accompany students to medical facilities during emergencies when assigned by administration until a parent or guardian arrives.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain professional conduct and confidentiality.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development.
• Follow all school policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

• Illinois Paraprofessional Educator License (PEL) or Paraprofessional Approval.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Preferred

• Associate's degree or higher.
• Experience working with students with disabilities or behavioral needs.
• Training in de-escalation, trauma-informed practices, or behavior supports.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move throughout the school building and supervise students in various settings.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and assist students as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry materials when required.

Pay: Up to $46,000.00 per year
