Paraprofessional Educator

POSITION: INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE

DAYS OF WORK: Monday – Thursday (10 months per year)

HOURS PER WEEK: 28

WAGES: Level A on Classified Salary Schedule

REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher

OVERVEW OF JOB:

The responsibility of an aide is to assist the teacher by performing tasks assigned and directed by that teacher to support students. These tasks may not infringe upon the professional responsibilities. One of the major functions aides can perform is that of making instruction more personalized for individual students.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Possession of high school diploma or a GED is required. You must have an equivalent of 2 year AA degree or pass a Para Pro Test which the District will pay for. Able to work well with children; previous experience is preferred.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Prepare and instruct students in the use of a variety of supplementary instructional materials.

* In the absence of the classroom teacher, assume responsibility for supervision of students in the classroom or other instructional area for extended periods of time.

* Supervise students at assemblies, on field trips, during lunch, and during recess, as assigned.

* Maintain class rolls, attendance, and other records.

* Provide individual and small group instruction to students as directed by teacher.

* Read aloud or listen to children read.

* Assist students in performing activities that have been initiated by the teacher.

* Hand out papers and collect paper work.

* Assist with supplementary work for resource and advanced students.

* Provide special help such as drilling with flash cards, spelling and play activities.

* Assist children in learning their names, addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays, parent’s names and other essential information.

* Supervise free play or other activities, as assigned.

* Assist teacher in preparing chalkboard, bulletin boards or other displays.

* Prepare tests, bibliographies, lists, notices, class materials, dittos, and other items.

* Check objective portions of homework, workbooks, etc.

* Record tests results and other materials.

* Assist in organizing field trips.

* Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the Head Teacher or classroom teacher may assign or delegate.

EVALUATION:

Job performance will be evaluated annually by each classroom teacher whose classroom you work in.
