Job Description

TITLE: Paraprofessional for Alternative Classroom

START DATE: TBD

DEPARTMENT: Regional Office of Education #8

DESCRIPTION: Assist the teacher in the delivery and management of individualized education plans for students in a computer-based alternative education setting. Provide support to students as they complete online coursework and individualized academic assignments, including tutoring, clarification of assignments, and assistance with technology. Assist with maintaining a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a valid Paraprofessional License or obtain after acceptance of position. Paraprofessional license requirements:

• Be at least 19 years of age and show proof of one (1) of the following requirements: 1. Associate's degree or higher/60 semester hours of coursework OR 2. Be able to pass the Parapro Assessment, a 2.5 hour assessment, 90 questions, based on basic skills and knowledge

Prefer experience working with at-risk youth. Strong organizational skills and computer experience, and a desire to help students succeed required.

REPORTS TO: RAP Program Coordinator & RAP Teachers

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 35 hours/week, school year position

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience

DUTIES:

• Assist students from diverse backgrounds with needed academic and social/life skills
• Keep records pertaining to daily activities in the classroom to include assist with grading student assignments and monitoring online curriculum
• Should be flexible and take initiative as a self-starter
• Punctuality and dependability a must
• Support the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior expectations
• All other duties as assigned by classroom teachers

Job Type: Full-time
