Post No. POSN005422 - Parent Practitioner

Make a difference for children and families through father-inclusive support

At Newport’s Parenting Team, we're committed to ensuring all parents and carers feel welcomed, included and able to access support when they need it.

We're looking for a Parent Practitioner who will help strengthen engagement with fathers, father figures and male carers, ensuring our services reflect the diverse family structures that exist across Newport and that every parent can play an active role in their child's life.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children and families by helping ensure support is accessible, inclusive and relevant to all parents and carers.

As a Parent Practitioner, you will work directly with parents, carers and families to deliver targeted interventions and support that improve outcomes for children and young people. A key focus of this role is increasing engagement with fathers, father figures and male carers, helping to ensure parenting services are accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all families.

You will:

  • Deliver evidence-based parenting interventions and family support.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, carers and families.
  • Engage fathers, father figures and male carers and support their participation in parenting.
  • Work with partner organisations to identify and reduce barriers to participation.
  • Support families to build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.
  • Contribute to improved outcomes for children and young people across Newport.

Please note this role includes regular Saturday working to support service delivery and improve accessibility for families.

You'll have experience of working directly with children, young people and families, delivering support that helps create positive change. You'll be skilled at building trust, engaging people from a wide range of backgrounds and supporting families facing a variety of challenges. You'll also have experience of delivering interventions, providing practical support and working effectively with partner agencies.

We're particularly interested in applicants who can build meaningful relationships with fathers, father figures and male carers, helping them feel welcomed, included and confident accessing support alongside other parents and carers.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Personal experience of being a father, mother or carer is not required.

In return, you'll join a supportive team and have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children, young people and families across Newport.

You'll also benefit from generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and ongoing learning and development opportunities.

We are also recruiting to a Parent Practitioner vacancy within Newport Family Hubs that supports parents, carers and families across all family settings. If you're interested in Parent Practitioner opportunities with us, we encourage you to review both vacancies and apply for the role that best matches your skills, experience and interests.

If you're passionate about helping families achieve positive change and want to make a meaningful impact in your community, we'd love to hear from you.

For an informal discussion, please contact Ann Price, Parenting Team Leader, on 07483 381172 or Annmarie Wallwin, Parenting Team Leader, on 07976 749130.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.

Newport City Council is not currently supporting applicants with sponsorship for right to work. In applying for a vacancy, applicants should already have the right to work in the UK.
