What they need

Activity Assistant

Position Summary
The Activity Assistant helps create meaningful, engaging days for individuals living with dementia at the CarePartners Dementia Day Center. This position plans, prepares, and leads a variety of activities designed around participants’ interests, abilities, and needs while also providing person-centered support and care throughout the day.

We are looking for someone who enjoys creating experiences, leading groups, trying new ideas, and finding different ways to engage people**.** The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, comfortable with technology, and able to take initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do next.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and lead daily individual and group activities, including creative arts, games, music, movement, reminiscence, discussion, technology-based activities, and other meaningful experiences.
  • Help develop the activity calendar and bring forward new ideas based on participants’ interests, abilities, and responses.
  • Adapt activities in the moment when something isn't working and find creative ways to encourage participation.
  • Research and use new activity resources, technology, media, and tools to keep programming fresh and engaging.
  • Prepare activity materials and spaces before programs and help organize and clean up afterward.
  • Get to know participants—their interests, routines, strengths, and preferences—and use that knowledge to create more personalized engagement.
  • Support and engage volunteers who participate in Day Center programming.
  • Participate in daily team huddles and communicate observations, participant needs, and programming ideas with the Day Center team.
  • Provide appropriate cueing, redirection, supervision, and personal care assistance for individuals living with dementia.
  • Follow participant care plans, licensing requirements, documentation standards, and Day Center policies.
  • Help maintain a positive, organized, safe, and welcoming environment for participants, families, volunteers, and coworkers.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least one year of experience planning, leading, or supporting activities in senior living, adult day services, recreation, healthcare, education, hospitality, or a related setting preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults or individuals living with dementia is a plus.
  • Comfortable leading groups and encouraging people with different interests and abilities to participate.
  • Creative and curious—someone who enjoys researching ideas, trying new approaches, and improving what already exists.
  • Self-directed and proactive—able to see what needs to be done and take appropriate action.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills.
  • Warm, patient, flexible, and comfortable working in an active team environment.
  • Comfortable using technology, including Microsoft Office, email, tablets, web-based programs, streaming media, and digital activity resources.
  • Able and willing to learn new technology and software independently.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

This Role May Be a Great Fit If...

You enjoy both the creative and people-centered sides of your work. You like coming up with ideas, but you also enjoy making those ideas happen. You're comfortable leading a room, but can also sit with someone and figure out what interests them. You don't need every part of your day spelled out for you, and when something isn't working, your instinct is to try a different approach.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
