Part-Time Assistant Shop Manager

Hi. We're a tiny, colorful, dog-friendly gift shop in NHID's Makers Alley, and we need someone to run the place while our owner is off drawing things. Emotionally, we're fine. Operationally, we'd love some help.

About us

A Lil' R & R is a cozy boutique owned by illustrator Emily Petrilla. We carry her illustrated greeting cards, stickers, and notepads alongside a rotating mix of goods from local makers and consignors, plus a treat bar for the four-legged customers (who are, frankly, our favorite customers). We also host adoption events, monthly pet photoshoots, and the occasional dog costume parade. Yes, really.

The role

You're the person who keeps the shop humming day to day. You see an empty shelf and fill it, see a quiet afternoon and find something useful to do with it, and see a slightly chaotic sale and know how to fix it.

What you'll do

• Run the register: sales, returns, refunds, gift cards, and gracefully fixing the occasional transaction that went sideways
• Receive, tag, and restock inventory, and keep displays looking cute enough to photograph
• Get new products listed on our online shop and keep quantities accurate between the shelf and the website
• Onboard new consignors, get their items into the system, and answer their questions
• Post to our Instagram and Facebook in the shop's voice (sassy, warm, a little extra)
• Support our events: make sure partners have what they need to set up, and take care of customers while the dogs get their close-ups
• On slow days, keep things moving without being asked: inventory checks, display refreshes, content for social, tidying the treat bar

You might be our person if

• You have retail experience, ideally in a small or independent shop (keyholder or lead experience is a big plus)
• You're a self-starter. You don't need a weekly to-do list because you can already see it.
• When something unusual comes up, you check the how-to docs first and figure it out
• You're comfortable with Shopify (or a similar POS) and posting on Instagram
• You genuinely like dogs. They will be here. They will want your attention.
• You're available on Saturdays, every Saturday. It's our busiest day, and we need you here for it.
• You can lift and move boxes of inventory (up to about 25 lbs)

The details

• Schedule: Part-time, about 21 hours per week. Saturdays are required.
• Pay: $16–$19 per hour, depending on experience
• Location: 540 St Albans Dr, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27609 (in person)
