What they need
A luxury boutique travel agency designing one-of-a-kind journeys for discerning travelers. Our clients come to us for exceptional service, deep destination knowledge, and the kind of attention to detail that turns a trip into a memory.
We've grown quickly, and our back office needs to catch up with our front of house. We're looking for a part-time Controller to bring order, clarity, and confidence to our finances.
You're seeing this role on Venn's page because David Matalon, Venn's CEO, is a friend of the founder and an investor in the agency. He's helping the team find the right Controller. To be clear, this role is with a luxury travel agency, not Venn.
The role
This is a fractional, part-time role for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys building as much as maintaining. You'll own day-to-day accounting end to end — payroll, billing, payables, and the monthly close — and set up the systems and controls that let a small, high-touch business scale.
It's an exciting opportunity to shape how the agency runs. You'll work directly with the founder, your recommendations will be heard and acted on, and you'll see the impact of your work every month as the business gets more organized and ready for its next stage of growth.
What you'll do
Payroll & expenses
- Run monthly payroll for a small team accurately and on time
- Review and reimburse employee expenses
- Keep payroll tax filings current
Billing & receivables
- Issue client invoices and track incoming payments, including deposits and final balances
- Follow up on overdue balances with tact befitting a luxury client experience
- Keep accounts receivable clean and current
Payables
- Process and pay bills on schedule, including payments to travel suppliers and partners
- Maintain accurate vendor records
Month-end close
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
- Close the books each month
- Deliver a P&L, balance sheet, and cash view the founder can act on
Controls & compliance
- Keep the books audit-ready
- Design and maintain practical financial controls suited to a small team
- Coordinate with our outside CPA on tax filings
Business admin
- Manage insurance policies, business licenses, and vendor contracts
- Keep business records organized, current, and easy to find
What you bring
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally as a controller or senior accountant at a small business
- Full-cycle bookkeeping and month-end close experience
- Working knowledge of payroll processing and payroll tax compliance
- Fluency in QuickBooks Online (or similar) and modern payroll and bill-pay tools
- A builder's mindset: you see a messy process and enjoy making it simple and repeatable
- Discretion and polish when dealing with high-net-worth clients and premium partners
- Self-direction and reliability in a remote, part-time setup
Nice to have
Experience in travel, hospitality, or other service businesses, including client deposits and supplier commissions
Other offers great for you!
