Meals on Wheels is a growing nonprofit organization serving the Merrillville, Indiana community since 1977. We offer a great, fun, and positive work environment where you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of local seniors and individuals in need.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, compassionate team member to prepare daycare meals for our congregate centers.

Job Duties

• Prepare and package snacks and meals based on the daily menu.
• Ensure food is cooked/warmed and handled per food instructions.
• Keep the work area organized and clean.
• Complete and submit paperwork daily.
• Perform any other assigned activity required to expedite the meals.Perform kitchen duties and other tasks as directed.

Hours

Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–12:30 PM

Hours may vary depending on daily business needs.

Starting Wage$15.00 per hour

Annual wage increases are available based on performance.

Paid Holidays

After 90 days of employment, employees receive 7 paid holidays:

• New Year's Day
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day

• Thanksgiving Day
• Day After Thanksgiving
• Christmas Day

Paid Time Off (PTO)

• 8 paid days off after 90 days
• 22 paid days off after 1 year

Requirements

• MUST HAVE kitchen, restaurant, cafe and cooking experience.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Strong reliability and consistent, punctual attendance are required.
• Ability to work independently.
• A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
