Part-Time Excavator Operator

Company: Epic Septic of Fairfield County
Location: Fairfield County, CT
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $26.00 per hour
Work Location: In person, at job sites throughout Fairfield County

Who We Are

The septic industry has accepted “good enough” for far too long—slow response times, poor communication, and missed expectations. At Epic Septic, we are rewriting that playbook. Built on veteran values, precision, and an absolute refusal to take shortcuts, we provide professional residential, commercial, and municipal liquid waste services across Fairfield County.

We operate by the EPIC Standard:

  • We Show Up & Take Charge: On time, every time. No ghosting. No maybes. We do what we say we’re going to do.
  • No BS: Full transparency with our customers and our team. No games, no fine print.
  • Top-Tier Workmanship: We don’t do sloppy. Every job is executed with absolute pride and care.

We take our work seriously so our customers don’t have to. We treat our team like the professionals they are, providing premium equipment, clear expectations, and a workplace that respects skilled work.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Part-Time Excavator Operator to support septic system installations and repairs throughout Fairfield County.

You’ll handle excavation, trenching, backfilling, and grading while working closely with our lead installer and field crew. You should be comfortable operating around homes, working in tight spaces, and protecting utilities, structures, and landscaping.

This is a hands-on role. When you’re out of the machine, you’ll help the crew keep the job moving.

A Day in the Life

  • Operate with Precision: Safely operate excavators and, when qualified, skid steers and other equipment for septic installations, repairs, and site preparation.
  • Excavate to Plan: Follow the lead installer’s direction and approved plans to dig tank excavations, trenches, and other required areas to the correct depth and grade.
  • Protect the Property: Work carefully around marked utilities, driveways, buildings, trees, and existing septic components. Use spotters and stop when conditions are unclear.
  • Backfill and Restore: Place and compact material as directed, finish-grade disturbed areas, and leave the site clean and organized.
  • Support the Crew: Help with materials, tools, hand digging, and cleanup as needed.
  • Maintain Your Equipment: Complete daily equipment checks, keep the machine clean, and promptly report leaks, damage, or maintenance needs.
  • Put Safety First: Follow excavation and trenching procedures, maintain safe clearance from people and equipment, and address unsafe conditions before continuing.

What We’re Looking For

  • Excavator Experience: Demonstrated experience operating excavators on construction, excavation, utility, or similar job sites.
  • Control and Judgment: Ability to work accurately in tight residential spaces and recognize when to stop and ask for direction.
  • Grade Awareness: Ability to follow layout marks and depth instructions. Experience with laser levels is a plus.
  • Relevant Background: Septic installation, drainage, underground utilities, or site-work experience is preferred.
  • Dependability: Reliable transportation to assigned job sites and a valid driver’s license.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to help outside the machine and communicate clearly with the lead installer and crew.
  • Field Readiness: Ability to perform the essential duties of outdoor excavation work, with or without reasonable accommodation.

A CDL and experience transporting equipment are a plus.

Pay and Schedule

  • $26.00 per hour.
  • Part-time schedule, coordinated around project needs and your availability.
  • Record all hours worked; required overtime is paid in accordance with applicable law.

Ready to Put Your Skills to Work?

If you’re a dependable operator who takes pride in accurate work and respects the customer’s property, we want to hear from you.
