Part-Time Field Service Technician

About Us

Unison Energy designs, builds, owns and operates onsite energy systems, including combined heat and power (CHP) plants and microgrids, that keep our customers' facilities running reliably. We're growing, and we need a skilled technician to help keep our Northern California sites in San Jose and Sonoma running after hours.

The Role

This is a part-time on-call role covering evening and weekend standby at our sites in San Jose and Sonoma. You'll be the first responder when a site needs attention outside business hours. Many issues are handled remotely with our 24/7 monitoring team, and others need you on site.

What You'll Do

• Respond to alarms and outages during your on-call shifts, remotely or on site
• Troubleshoot and restore engines, generators, switchgear and balance-of-plant equipment
• Work with our monitoring team and regional field lead to resolve issues safely
• Record your work and time accurately in our maintenance and timekeeping systems
• Follow all safety procedures

Schedule

• One-week on-call rotation, every other week
• During your on-call week: Monday through Friday, 5 to 10 p.m., plus Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Off-call weeks are yours, with no standby
• While on call, you must be able to respond safely from within about one hour of both our Stockton and Sonoma sites

What You Bring

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with reciprocating engines, generators, CHP, or industrial power equipment
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Comfort working independently and making sound calls under pressure
• A reliable personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance and an acceptable driving record
• Ability to lift 40 lbs and work in mechanical spaces

Pay and Benefits

• Hourly rate: $33.00 to $38.00, depending on experience
• Standby pay: $20 per hour for scheduled on-call time
• Callout pay: your hourly rate, with a two-hour minimum when you're dispatched to a site, and overtime as required by California law
• Mileage reimbursement: for business use of your personal vehicle, including driving to sites on callouts, at the IRS standard mileage rate
• Benefits: paid sick leave under California law
