About the role
The Norfolk Arms is looking for a confident, experienced and hardworking Grill Chef to join our busy kitchen team on a part-time basis.
We are a busy, independent pub, restaurant, hotel and events venue on the edge of Sheffield and the Peak District. From busy weekend services and Sunday lunches to weddings, parties and private functions, our kitchen is at the heart of everything we do.
We are looking for someone who knows their way around a grill, takes pride in the food they produce and can maintain high standards when the pressure is on.
If you're passionate about cooking, enjoy working as part of a team and can keep a cool head during a busy service, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Running the grill section during service and ensuring dishes are cooked to the correct standard.
- Preparing, cooking and presenting food consistently in line with our menu specifications.
- Managing cooking times and coordinating orders to ensure food leaves the kitchen together.
- Maintaining excellent food quality, portion control and presentation.
- Preparing and organising your section before service.
- Ensuring your workstation, equipment and surrounding areas are kept clean and organised.
- Following food hygiene, health and safety procedures at all times.
- Working closely with the Head Chef, Sous Chef and wider kitchen team to deliver smooth and efficient services.
- Helping with preparation and other kitchen duties when required.
- Supporting the kitchen during busy weekends, functions and events.
What we're looking for
Our ideal candidate will be:
- Experienced in a professional kitchen, with previous grill experience essential.
- Confident cooking a range of dishes to order during busy services.
- Able to work efficiently under pressure without compromising on quality.
- Organised, reliable and punctual.
- Passionate about good food and maintaining high standards.
- A strong team player with a positive, hardworking attitude.
- Confident following instructions while also using their own initiative.
- Committed to maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.
We want someone who takes ownership of their section, communicates well with the rest of the kitchen and is happy to get stuck in wherever needed.
What we offer
- Part-time, permanent position.
- Competitive rate of pay, depending on experience.
- Staff food while on duty.
- 25% off meals for up to four people when dining off duty.
- A share of tips.
- Free on-site parking.
- A friendly team within an independent, family-run business.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and take on further responsibility.
Hours of work
This is a part-time position, with hours and shifts agreed according to the needs of the business.
Weekend availability is essential, and additional hours may be available during busy periods and functions.
Please note: The Norfolk Arms operates 365 days a year and is open on Christmas Day. Availability and willingness to work on Christmas Day is an essential requirement for this role. Our festive rota is planned in advance.
Due to our location in Ringinglow, candidates must have reliable transport to and from work.
