Its in-home, mobile, and smartwatch-enabled solutions promote safety and independence for older adults while delivering actionable insights to caregivers and care teams to support continuity of care.

We are looking for a technically curious, detail-oriented Part-Time Hardware & Device Test Engineer to support the testing and validation of connected medical alert and mobile personal emergency response system (mPERS) devices. This is a hands-on engineering role working with real production and pre-production connected devices, including cellular-enabled pendants, smartwatches, wearable devices, charging accessories, and related hardware. The individual will work closely with our Product & Technology team and support testing of both new hardware products and firmware/software updates to existing products.

Requirements:

  • Execute structured test plans against new firmware releases and hardware revisions.
  • Perform functional and regression testing to verify that existing features continue to work after firmware changes.
  • Test pre-production engineering samples during hardware development and validation.
  • Reproduce reported device problems and document the conditions under which issues occur.
  • Compare behavior across hardware versions, firmware versions, device configurations, and cellular networks.
  • Retest defects after engineering or vendor fixes are delivered.
  • Test devices using major U.S. cellular networks and multiple SIM configurations.
  • Validate device activation, network registration, incoming and outgoing calls, SMS commands, and data communication.
  • Assist with troubleshooting configuration, APN, SIM, and cellular-network-related issues.
  • Capture test details and logs needed for escalation to hardware manufacturers, module suppliers, and engineering teams.
  • Document defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
  • Capture photos, video, logs, screenshots, call information, and other supporting data when useful.
  • Maintain test checklists and regression-test results.
  • Functional testing of engineering samples.
  • Battery and charging testing.
  • Audio and speaker testing.
  • Button and user-interface behavior.

Qualification:

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electronic devices.
  • Understanding of basic electronics and computer hardware.
  • Familiarity with firmware, embedded systems, IoT devices, or microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with cellular technologies, SIM cards, LTE, Bluetooth, GPS/GNSS, or wireless communications.
  • Ability to methodically isolate variables when troubleshooting a problem.
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets and structured test documentation.
  • Ability to read technical specifications and follow engineering test procedures.

Experience with tools such as serial consoles, AT commands, log files, command-line utilities, APIs, Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, oscilloscopes, multimeters, or similar engineering tools is a plus, not a requirement.

Schedule:

This is a part-time position designed to accommodate an undergraduate or graduate student's academic schedule.
