Part-time | 3 days per week | Some Saturdays required

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and experienced Hardware Shop Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis, working 3 days per week, including some Saturdays.

Previous experience working in a DIY, hardware or builders’ merchant environment is essential, as you will need to be comfortable advising customers and discussing a range of tools, hardware, fixings and DIY products.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Serving customers and providing helpful, knowledgeable advice
• Assisting customers in finding the right products for their projects
• Operating the till and handling payments
• Replenishing stock and maintaining an organised, tidy shop
• Receiving deliveries and checking stock
• Answering customer enquiries in person and by telephone
• Helping with general day-to-day shop duties
• Handling and moving heavy items

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience in a DIY, hardware or similar environment — essential
• Has good knowledge of hardware, tools and DIY products
• Has at least 1 year of retail experience — desirable
• Is friendly, approachable and confident dealing with customers
• Is accurate and pays close attention to detail, particularly when handling stock, orders and payments
• Is physically able to lift and move heavy items, including 25kg bags of salt
• Is reliable, practical and well organised
• Can work independently as well as part of a small team
• Is flexible and able to work some Saturdays

Hours: Part-time, 3 days per week
Saturday working: Some Saturdays required
Experience: Previous DIY/hardware experience essential; retail experience desirable

Pay: £17,813.25 per year
