What they need
Company Overview
JBMPS Ltd has been supporting the UK's road surfacing industry for over 20 years, specialising in the servicing, maintenance, repair and manufacture of specialist spraying machinery used in surface dressing.
We are a well-established, specialist business looking for a reliable, practical and enthusiastic individual to join our team in a varied role combining HGV driving during the busy summer months with the opportunity to learn mechanical fitting and maintenance skills on our specialist spraying equipment.
Role Overview
We are looking for a part-time HGV Driver / Trainee Mechanical Fitter to join our team.
The role will primarily involve driving specialist HGV spraying vehicles during the summer surface dressing season, with an enhanced rate of pay for driving duties.
Outside of driving duties, we would like someone who is willing to get involved in the workshop, assisting with servicing, maintaining and repairing the specialist spraying equipment fitted to these vehicles.
Previous mechanical fitting experience is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone who is hands-on, mechanically minded, willing to learn and takes pride in their work. Full training and support will be provided.
Importantly, the mechanical work relates to the spraying machinery and associated equipment, not the vehicle chassis, engine or general HGV maintenance.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys driving but would also like to develop practical mechanical skills and benefit from a varied role throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
HGV Driving – Primarily During Summer
- Drive specialist HGV spraying vehicles to and from customer sites and road surfacing operations across the UK.
- Safely operate vehicles in accordance with road transport regulations and company procedures.
- Carry out appropriate daily vehicle checks and report any defects.
- Work alongside customers and site teams to support surface dressing operations.
- Be flexible with working hours and travel requirements during the busy summer season.
Mechanical Fitting & Workshop Support
- Assist with the servicing, maintenance and repair of specialist spraying equipment.
- Learn how the spraying systems operate, including pumps, pipework, valves, hydraulics and associated components.
- Help experienced fitters with dismantling, inspecting, repairing and reassembling spraying equipment.
- Support workshop activities, equipment preparation and general maintenance tasks.
- Develop the skills to identify faults and carry out basic repairs with training and supervision.
- Assist with on-site servicing and repairs when required.
Please note: Mechanical work is focused on the specialist spraying equipment, not the HGV chassis or general vehicle mechanics.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Full, valid UK HGV driving entitlement (Category C or C+E, as appropriate for the vehicles).
- Appropriate Driver CPC qualification where required for the driving duties.
- Reliable, responsible and safety-conscious attitude.
- Practical, hands-on approach with an interest in mechanical equipment.
- Willingness to learn new skills and assist with workshop duties.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Flexibility to work additional hours during the busy summer season.
Desirable but Not Essential:
- Previous experience driving HGVs, particularly specialist or road surfacing vehicles.
- Basic mechanical knowledge or experience using hand tools.
- Experience working with agricultural machinery, plant equipment, hydraulics or similar.
- Previous workshop, engineering or maintenance experience.
We are happy to train the right person. A positive attitude and willingness to get involved are more important than previous mechanical qualifications.
What We Offer
- Part-time role with flexibility around seasonal workload.
- Higher rate of pay for HGV driving duties during the summer season.
- Competitive hourly rate for workshop and mechanical duties.
- Additional hours available during busy periods.
- Full training in specialist spraying machinery and mechanical fitting.
- Opportunity to develop valuable skills in a niche engineering sector.
- Varied work combining driving, workshop activities and occasional site visits.
- Friendly, experienced team within an established specialist company.
Who Would Suit This Role?
This opportunity could be particularly well suited to an experienced HGV driver looking for part-time or seasonal work, who also enjoys practical, hands-on tasks.
Equally, it could suit someone with a mechanical or agricultural background who already holds the appropriate HGV licence and would like to learn about specialist road surfacing machinery.
If you're a capable HGV driver, practical with your hands and interested in learning something new, we'd like to hear from you.
Pay: £14.75-£20.00 per hour
