What they need

East Side Pet Ranch | East Austin
Hiring one part-time kennel technician

About Us

East Side Pet Ranch offers daycare, boarding, grooming, and soon-to-be training services for pets in East Austin and Central Texas. We’re committed to safe, compassionate care and friendly, dependable service for the families who trust us with their pets.

We’re looking for a reliable, attentive team member who enjoys hands-on animal care and takes pride in keeping pets safe, comfortable, and well cared for.

Position Overview

This position focuses on kennel operations and direct pet care. You’ll supervise dogs, prepare meals, administer medications as trained, monitor pets’ well-being, and help maintain a clean, safe facility.

The role is active and includes outdoor work, routine cleaning, and caring for pets with different personalities and needs. Applicants should be comfortable with the physical and sometimes messy work involved in professional animal care.

Training & 90-Day Probation Period

All new hires begin with a 90-day probation period, during which you’ll learn our pet care routines, animal handling procedures, cleaning standards, and daily operations.

Training progresses based on demonstrated skills, safe handling, reliability, and readiness. We expect team members to follow care instructions closely, ask questions when unsure, and communicate concerns promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Safely handle pets and follow established care and safety procedures.
  • Supervise dogs during play and monitor behavior and interactions.
  • Follow assigned groupings and rotation schedules.
  • Prepare and serve meals according to each pet’s instructions.
  • Administer medications after completing the required training.
  • Monitor pets’ appetite, behavior, bathroom habits, and overall condition, and promptly report concerns.
  • Record feeding, medication, and care updates accurately.
  • Provide attentive care for both social and non-social pets.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, yards, equipment, and other facility areas.
  • Complete laundry, dishes, waste cleanup, and other daily care tasks.
  • Communicate with management, front desk, grooming, and fellow kennel staff throughout the day.
  • Help maintain a safe, comfortable environment for every pet.

Qualifications

  • Previous professional kennel experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in daycare, boarding, veterinary medicine, or another professional pet care setting is a plus.
  • Comfortable working directly with dogs and cats and completing routine cleaning duties.
  • Able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Attentive to animal behavior and willing to follow established handling procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially with feeding, medications, and care instructions.
  • Able to stay focused and work efficiently during busy periods.
  • Comfortable learning and using software to document pet care.
  • Reliable attendance and dependable transportation.
  • Weekend and holiday availability is required.

Schedule & Availability

We’re hiring one part-time kennel technician.

Scheduled hours depend on availability, staffing needs, and reservation volume. Applicants should be comfortable with some seasonal variation in their schedule.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be a good fit if you’re dependable, patient, observant, and willing to take initiative. You should enjoy caring for animals while understanding that cleaning, accurate documentation, and following routines are essential parts of the job.

We value team members who communicate clearly, ask for help when needed, and take responsibility for completing their duties thoroughly.

Benefits

  • Employee discounts on daycare, boarding, training, and grooming.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • Training and hands-on experience in animal care.
  • A collaborative workplace where your work directly supports pets and their families.

If you enjoy working with animals and want to be part of a team committed to dependable, compassionate care, we’d love to hear from you.

Please include your relevant animal care experience and weekly availability when applying.
