Position: Part-Time Kitchen Staff

Location: SAJ Synagogue, 15 West 86th Street, New YorkCompensation: $25 per hour

Position Description:

This part-time role supports kitchen operations at SAJ, primarily for weekly Saturday services and special events.

Responsibilities:

• Preparing vegetable, fruit, fish, and bagel platters
• Making tuna salad, egg salad, bean salad, pasta salad, potato salad, and other dishes
• Prepare and serve special holiday meals (e.g., Passover, Rosh Hashanah), which feature holiday-specific menus (including making butternut squash soup)
• Warming prepared foods
• Setting out drinks, including coffee, tea, and related accompaniments
• Arranging and setting food, drinks, utensils, and paper goods in event spaces
• Cleaning and resetting supplies in kitchen and dining areas before and after events
• Tracking and organizing food and supply inventory, and alerting the Operations Manager of any items that need to be ordered
• Understanding and applying proper hygiene, storage, and handling practices

Schedule & Hours:

• Saturdays: 8am to 2:30pm
• Special Events: Approximately twice a month, typically between 4:00pm and 10:00pm

Qualifications:

• Friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with guests and staff
• Must be fluent in English and Spanish
• Comfortable with food preparation and handling
• Prior experience in a kitchen, food, or catering role
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to provide documentation
