About Us

James G. Grant Co. is a well-established, family-owned and operated business located in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. Since 1956, we have provided scrap metal recycling, waste disposal, trucking, and demolition services throughout the Greater Boston area.

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant / Controller to oversee financial reporting, account reconciliations, and general accounting functions.

The ideal candidate will be a dependable accounting professional who can work independently, maintain accurate financial records, and provide valuable financial insight to management.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations.
• Prepare and review financial statements, including profit-and-loss statements and balance sheets.
• Analyze financial performance and compare current results with prior periods and years.
• Identify unusual expenses, discrepancies, and financial trends, bringing significant findings to management’s attention.
• Maintain and review general ledger accounts using QuickBooks.
• Prepare and manage IFTA reporting, fuel tax credits, and related documentation.
• Review financial records for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
• Coordinate with our outside CPA firm regarding annual tax preparation and financial reporting.
• Work with existing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll personnel to ensure accurate financial records.
• Provide additional accounting support and financial analysis as needed.
• 401(k) contribution calculations

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum 7–10 years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior accounting or controller-level position.
• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience preparing financial statements and performing account reconciliations.
• Ability to independently manage accounting responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Previous experience as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Controller.
• Experience in construction, trucking, recycling, manufacturing, or a related industry.
• Familiarity with IFTA reporting and fuel tax requirements.
• CPA or CMA certification is a plus but not required.

Schedule & Compensation

• $50.00–$60.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
• Approximately 16–24 hours per week.
• Consistent, flexible part-time schedule.
• On-site position at our Hyde Park, MA office.

Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 – 24.0 per week
