What they need

About Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a nonprofit organization powered by volunteers and committed to saving dogs and cats at risk in overcrowded shelters. Our one-of-a-kind South Carolina Rescue Campus in Florence County provides lifesaving care to animals rescued from local shelters and the surrounding community.

Our Re-Tail Thrift Store in downtown Florence is an important part of that mission. Every donated item sold helps generate funds to provide food, veterinary care, shelter, and second chances to animals who need us.

We're looking for an energetic, creative and entrepreneurial Part-Time Re-Tail Thrift Store Manager who can help us take the store to the next level. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue’s Re-Tail Thrift is open Wednesday through Saturday and currently has volunteers that cover the store on Wednesday.

The Opportunity

This isn't just a job running a thrift store. It's an opportunity to build a thriving retail business that saves animals.

We're looking for someone who loves finding the potential in donated items, creating displays that make people want to shop, connecting with customers, and using social media to turn great inventory into sales.

The Re-Tail Thrift Store Manager will oversee day-to-day store operations while constantly looking for new ways to increase sales, attract new shoppers, grow our social media presence, and make Re-Tail a destination in downtown Florence.

Because our inventory is constantly changing, there is always something new to promote. We want someone who will get excited about a great donation, photograph it, share it online, create buzz around new arrivals and special finds, and give people a reason to keep coming back.

This position has significant opportunities for growth. If the Manager successfully grows store revenue and expands the business, the position could increase in hours and potentially become full-time.

What You'll DoGrow the Business

  • Take ownership of growing Re-Tail's sales, customer base and presence in the Florence community.
  • Develop creative ideas to increase foot traffic, average sales and repeat customers.
  • Identify new opportunities to promote merchandise, special sales, seasonal inventory and unique donations.
  • Track what's selling—and what's not—and adjust pricing, merchandising and promotions accordingly.
  • Look for new ways to turn donated inventory into revenue for Lucky Dog's lifesaving programs.
  • Build relationships with downtown Florence businesses, organizations and community partners.
  • Identify opportunities for Re-Tail to participate in downtown events, festivals, promotions and other community activities.

Make Social Media a Sales Tool

  • Actively promote Re-Tail and its inventory on social media, showcasing new arrivals, unique finds, special deals and merchandise that will get shoppers excited.
  • Regularly photograph, take videos and create engaging content featuring store inventory.
  • Help make Re-Tail's social media presence fun, fresh and worth following. Importantly, use social media to drive customers to come to the store.
  • Use Facebook Marketplace and other appropriate online platforms to sell higher-value, unique or especially desirable items.
  • Experiment with creative ways to turn online followers into in-store shoppers and customers.
  • Help build a recognizable Re-Tail personality that connects shopping with Lucky Dog's lifesaving mission.

Create a Store People Want to Shop

  • Intake, sort, price and organize donated merchandise.
  • Create attractive, frequently changing displays that showcase merchandise and encourage sales.
  • Keep the store organized, welcoming and easy to shop.
  • Recognize valuable, unusual or highly marketable donations and determine the best way to sell them.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and create a fun, friendly shopping experience.
  • Develop seasonal displays, promotions and special sales that give customers a reason to visit often.

Manage Inventory & Operations

  • Maintain effective inventory control and proactively communicate with Lucky Dog leadership about inventory needs.
  • Ensure merchandise moves efficiently from donation intake to the sales floor.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify categories where additional donations should be solicited.
  • Help ensure the store operates efficiently and professionally.

Lead & Engage Volunteers

  • Train and support volunteers in store operations, merchandising and customer service.
  • Build a positive environment where volunteers enjoy being part of the Re-Tail team.
  • Ensure open store shifts are covered by volunteers as needed.
  • Help volunteers understand how their work at Re-Tail directly supports Lucky Dog's lifesaving mission.

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate is someone who sees a thrift store full of donated merchandise and immediately starts thinking about what will sell, how to display it, how to promote it and how to get more people through the door.

You should have:

  • Retail, thrift store, resale or similar experience preferred.
  • A strong interest in sales and growing a retail business.
  • Experience using social media, particularly Tiktok, Facebook and Instagram;
  • The ability and enthusiasm to photograph merchandise and create engaging social media content.
  • Strong merchandising instincts and an eye for attractive displays.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Creativity, initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to recruit, motivate and work effectively with volunteers.
  • Comfort learning from sales results and trying new approaches to increase revenue.
  • Ability to lift, move and organize merchandise throughout the store.
  • Basic inventory management experience is a plus.
  • A passion for Lucky Dog's mission and enthusiasm for the idea that every sale helps save an animal.

Why This Job Is Different

At Re-Tail, selling a donated lamp, handbag, piece of furniture or vintage find isn't just a retail transaction. Every dollar generated helps Lucky Dog rescue and care for animals who might otherwise have nowhere to go.

We're looking for someone who wants to put their creativity, energy and entrepreneurial spirit to work building something special in downtown Florence.

If you love thrift stores, social media, finding hidden treasures, growing a business—and animals—we'd love to hear from you.
