Part-Time Warming Center Security Specialist

Tedford Housing is seeking (2) part-time temporary Security Specialists to work at our overnight winter Warming Center in Brunswick. In this important role, the security specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for our staff, volunteers and guests.

Security Specialist Responsibilities Include:

• Maintain a high level of professionalism and vigilance while interacting with guests and staff.
• Greeting facility guests, completing initial security screenings, and addressing guest and staff safety concerns.
• Perform parking lot checks and monitor cameras.
• Perform regular facility checks throughout shift, being alert for fire, unauthorized entry, safety risks/hazards, suspicious activity and various types of utility failures.
• Assist staff and emergency personnel with incident response.
• Respond appropriately to escalating and emergent situations using empathy, peer support, verbal de-escalation principles, and trauma informed responses.

This temporary, non-benefitted position will require weekend shift work. Working hours are from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm, with 3 to 4 shifts per week. Rate of pay for this position is: $24 per hour. Background check is required.

Training and Experience Desired:

• High School completion required with any equivalent combination of education, experience, and relevant training.
• Previous experience working security or another closely related field.
• Ability to remain calm during disturbances or other stressful situations.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Working knowledge of security methods/techniques.
• Ability to assist people in crisis situations.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, guests, case managers, social workers, institutional and public officials, and other community contacts.
• Evidence of a positive attitude that supports the goals of Tedford Housing and the Warming Center.
• Ability and willingness to utilize available translation services to serve clients with limited or no English proficiency.
• Excellent oral communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse clientele.
